Duties:
 Trained to do sample analysis using the X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technique, from sample prep
till reporting to the client, and data analysis with QA/QC checks using Starlims.

 I was given the opportunity to plan, train staff and manage a new project until it was
implemented into the mainstream production cycle.
 Supervised a team (7 staff) during a Pilot Plant campaign. Had to ensure that turnaround times
were met, quality data was produced (QA/QC) and had to provide client satisfaction.
 Exposure to various other analytical techniques including HPLC, ICP-OES, Titrations, LECO,
AA, RD, sample prep (fusions, digestions).
 Assisted the R&D technical team with method validation for Iron Ore analysis using microwave
digestion and ICP-OES.
 I am currently learning more about method validation using the ICP-MS technique which I have
been using to analyze and report production and SABS samples.
 Safety protocols were adhered to at all times and the Anglo values were lived by. I am currently
part of the SHE committee as well as a fire fighter on the Emergency Response Team.
 I have helped to audit a few methods using the ISO 17025 procedure as well as did many
reviews on current SOP’s within Chemistry.

Technologist to Grad Metallurgist Extractive Metallurgy Department
Duties:
 Generate data and optimize operating conditions using the newly invented Smart Level Solvex
Instrument and to assist in writing up the operating manual.
 Solvent Extraction test work, assisted in generating isotherms, phase disengagement tests and
also worked considerably with the continuous settling equipment.
 General laboratory test work – Filtration tests were done using an automatic titrator and filter
pots.
 Pilot Plant Campaigns – Worked shift work on two pilot plant campaigns, involved monitoring the
plant processes and implementing corrective measures where need be to keep the plant stable.
 Bench-scale test-work for the various projects was conducted using techniques such as, Acid
Leaching, Solvent Extraction, Ion Exchange and Electro-winning.
 Safety – I have written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and have also been able to
report incidents. Safety was always a priority, thus all procedures were met in all campaigns
