The Supreme Court of India took suo moto cognizance of two tweets made by Prashant Bhushan: one criticizing the Chief Justice of India for riding a motorcycle without a mask or helmet belonging to a BJP leader, and another criticizing the role of the last four Chief Justices in the destruction of democracy in India. The Court viewed the tweets as bringing the administration of justice into disrepute and undermining the dignity of the institution. It issued a notice to the Attorney General of India and Prashant Bhushan to appear before the Court on August 5th. Twitter Inc. was also asked to file a reply as the tweets were made on their platform.
