The World Congress on Railway Research is an international forum that brings together railway companies, researchers, and other stakeholders to share innovations in the global rail industry. The conference focuses on railway research and innovation involving operators, infrastructure managers, and planners, which help build and offer more cost-effective, higher-capacity, and better-performing train services. The 2016 conference will take place in Milan, Italy, with the goal of stimulating railway stakeholders to innovate their activities and deliver a more sustainable and attractive railway through 2050.

1. The World Congress on Railway Research is the world's foremost international forum for
the promotion, development and exchange of the latest innovations in the global rail
industry. The international community of railway companies, researchers and other
interested stakeholders will come together sharing experiences.
Railway research and innovation, that involve operators, infrastructure managers and
industry planners, are not only related just to technical areas, but they also pervade all
industrial and financial processes needed to build and offer train services to customers in
a higher-capacity, better-performing and more cost-effective railway.
This is the aim we would pursue in this WCRR edition with its conference theme Railway
Research and Innovation from Today Towards 2050. Stimulating all railway stakeholders
to show and share what they do to innovate their activities targeting, to deliver a
better-performing, more sustainable railway and more attractive for new and existing
customers into two horizons: a long term vision and the next future.
The WCRR 2016 will take place in Milan, Italy, in the heart of Europe, a world tourist and
business destination, becoming the biggest ever rail conference/exhibition hosted in the
region, with 1000+ attendees from 30+ nations around the world, 200+ speakers, papers
and proof of concept.
Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group and Trenitalia will be the host organization of WCRR
2016.
