“ Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink.” Part 2: Save The River!
Collaborative group activity Given a computer with Internet access, a word processor, and the appropriate webquest documents, collaborative groups of 7 th grade Earth Sciences students will research data on the quality of the water in the local river and will summarize their findings in written format with at least 90% accuracy based on the rubric.
Webquest would include video links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZmLw88dGG0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCi0nU95yEE&NR
Google Earth Visualization Using Google Earth as part of the webquest, students will visualize and identify potential local businesses to contact in the letter-writing campaign.
Streetview - Gas Station What about gas stations? How many gas stations can you identify in the area around the school?
Streetview - Blimpy Burger Blimpy’s deliciously heart-stopping burgers are not only bad for your health but the cooking grease is nasty waste! What other restaurants can you identify in the local area?
… and so forth, offering 5 or 6 categories of business to identify and letting the students find the appropriate locations
Our school will be working in collaboration with the Huron River Watershed Foundation to address the problem of waste awareness in the community around our school. Many of the older storm drains are not marked as the example is here. We’re going to change that by spraypainting a similar message where it is needed! Stencil Project
Stencil Example Here is an example design for a stormdrain stencil. Can your team make a better one?! Concentrate on coming up with a clear message you can be proud of! Design parameters? See the next page!
Here’s How To Make a Stencil! Follow the design principles presented in the video to make a usable stencil pattern! Visit the other links in the webquest as well, to broaden your stencil-creating knowledge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXWQTG6DjL8
