Saudi Arabia is located in the Middle East, bordered by 7 countries, and occupies most of the Arabian Peninsula. It has varied terrain including mountain ranges along the western edge, higher elevations in the south, and a central arid plateau where 28% of Saudis live. 95% of the country is desert, including the world's largest sandy desert Rub al Khali. The largest oasis is Al-Ahsa, located inland from the Persian Gulf, with over 3 million palm trees. The country has a generally harsh desert climate with high summer temperatures and low rainfall. Major resources include petroleum, natural gas, gold, silver and copper.

3. Saudi Arabia is located in the Middle East and is bordered by 7 countries i.e. Yemen,
Oman, U.A.E., Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, and Jordan. It occupies most of the Arabian
Peninsula, with the Red Sea to the west & the Persian Gulf to the east.

5.  Al Hijaz – A string of mountain ranges
stretches along the western edge of Saudi
Arabia. The northern segments of these
highlands, known as Al Hijaz. General
elevation of 2000ft to 3000ft with some
mountains exceeding 6500ft.
 Asir – South of Al Hijaz the highlands continue
into the region known as Asir. Here the
elevation is higher and generally lies between
5000 to 7000ft. Also the highest peak “Jabal
Sawda” with an elevation of 9,843ft is located
in this region.

7.  Najd – This is an arid, rocky plateau.
 It is the geographical central region of Saudi
Arabia in which twenty-eight percent of Saudis

Rub Al-Khali also called
“Empty Quarter” = “place

reach 150 degrees.

9.  Al Ahsa, Al Hasa, or Hadjar is the largest oasis
of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
 The oasis is located about 60 km inland from
the coast of the Persian Gulf.
 It has been inhabited since prehistoric times,
due to its abundance of water in an otherwise
arid region.

10.  Al-Ahsa is an oasis of dates and the
greenest place in the eastern part of
Saudi Arabia.
 It has an area that exceeds 10,000 hectares
and contains about 3 million palm trees.
 The magnificence of the Al-Ahsa Oasis
had resulted in it being nominated to
compete for the title of one of the Seven
Wonders of the World.
 A great way to get a bird's eye view of
the oasis is to climb the Qara Mountain.

12.  The Country has generally harsh and dry
“Desert Climate”.
 Extreme heat during the day, an abrupt drop
in temperature at night, and very low annual
rainfall.
 The average summer temperature is about 45°
C, but readings of up to 54° C are not unusual.
 In the winter, the temperature seldom drops
below 0° C.
 Frequent sand and dust storms.

16.  KSA is number 8 in top 10 natural gas
producers of the world with No. 1 being
USA.
 It ranks 37 in terms of gold production
and produces about 5500 kg of gold per
year.
 Main gold mines are Mahd al-Dhahab
and Ad Duwayhi.
 Silver- Location is Al- Nuqva, near
Medina, with estimated reserves of
866,000 tonnes.

17.  The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) discovered
hundreds of tons of copper in a 3000 square
meter surface, while mining processes shows
many indications to the discovery of new gold
mines that will significantly contribute in
raising the total production of the Kingdom to
more than 10 tons annually.
 These discoveries will support the Saudi Vision
2030 in relying on non-oil revenues and will
remarkably contribute in maximizing the
production of copper.
