Nairobi, Kenya and on the island of Lagonave, Haiti.
We started our work in 2011 working exclusively with
Deaf women in Kenya, and as their potential has grown, our brand is
expanding to work with women and men across the globe who face
exceptional physical or geographic challenges in accessing safe,
secure and sustainable work.
Our commitment remains first and foremost to
provide long term employment and empowerment to those who face
extreme hardship in supporting themselves and their families.

12. SASA ARTISANS IN KENYA
When a deaf woman joins Sasa Designs, she not only gets a job but
becomes an artisan. She is provided with the opportunity to create her
own future through skill development and employment. Many of these
women are single mothers, who desire to have a consistent income to
provide their children with education and an opportunity to break the
poverty cycle. As Sasa artisans, they do just that, and more.
Several artisans have also been able to start providing for their
parents and siblings too - directly challenging the widespread belief
that deafness is a liability.
Some Sasa artisans have gone on to be involved in the design process
and become creators themselves.
These designs are bold, creative and beautiful, just like these women,
and add something truly beautiful to your collection.

15. SASA ARTISANS IN HAITI
In the small rural community of Matènwa, Lagonav, Haiti, you will find
artisans hard at work creating our Slice of Haiti Scarves. The scarves
represent the vivid colors of a country populated by 10 million people.
Reached only by boat or plane, then a dusty, bumpy road up the
mountain, Sasa Designs is working with a group of 4 women in the
remote village. Each scarf is as unique as the woman who creates it.
Limited by geography and education, Sasa is able to provide
a steady stream of employment for these mothers, who are
also pillars of their community.
We look forward to sharing more about the women
and new products as we grow.
