The document discusses the abuse and mistreatment of slaves. Slaves faced severe beatings and physical abuse, sometimes resulting in lost body parts or death. They were hung by their heads or had nails drilled into their ribs as punishment. Living conditions for slaves were unsanitary and crowded. Owners provided little food and saw slaves as possessions rather than people. Graphic pictures within the document depict abuse and mistreatment of slaves.
6. Abuse
• Slaves were always abused and mistreated. If slaves
did even one thing wrong, barely doing anything
wrong, they would be very badly beaten. Hanging by
the head was most definitely the most popular. Then
again if someone was miss behaving, a ear, hand, or
fingers would be lost. The worst slaveowners would
beat slaves with sledgehammers and in the worst
case, get a nail and a hammer and drill it in there
ribs.
9. Mistreatment
• Being mistreated to a slave was better than being
abused. Mostly because abusing was worst and
some slaveowners would just beat because they had
that much power. There homes were number one
mistreatment because of all the dirt and nastiness of
the conditions. The food was not a concern daily for
the slaveowners because they didn’t care about
anyone but themselves. It truly is gross the way
owners would treat the slaves.
