Minister of Education
Education is vital to building a strong and successful
society for all New Zealanders. Our education system
performs well overall and in global terms, and it
must if young New Zealanders are to be equipped
with the values, knowledge and skills to be successful
in the 21st Century. Our Government is committed to
raising achievement for all our students.
To do this, we must tackle long-standing differences
between students and schools that are performing
well and those that are not and continue to raise
the quality of education excellence for all. This is
New Zealand’s achievement challenge. To help
meet this challenge, the Government is investing
in a system-wide shift and lift.
Our Government has set clear and challenging
Better Public Service targets. 98% of children who
start school in 2016 will have participated in early
childhood education, and 85% of 18 year olds will
have achieved NCEA Level 2 or equivalent in 2017. To
ensure the connections across the system, I have set
an additional target of 85% of primary school students
meeting national standards in 2017. These are

This was Alexandria Agenda's recent submission to the Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources paper on international education. Please read our recommendations as to how we believe stakeholders in international education can be better engaged to build better outcomes for all parties involved.

The Adult Learners' Festival 2015 is a nationwide celebration of adult learning in Ireland coordinated by AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation, from February 23-28. The Festival aims to celebrate adult learners' achievements, showcase adult education providers' work, promote adult education, and ensure adult education remains a political priority. The event encourages participation from anyone interested in courses, skills development, qualifications, hobbies or social activities to experience the benefits of adult learning.
2015/16 Ministry and Department of Education Budget Brief
The document is the budget brief for the Ministry of Education for 2015-2016 presented by Minister Wayne Scott.

The speaker discusses internationalization of higher education in Norway. Some key points:
1) Norway has historically collaborated mostly with Nordic and European countries as well as North America, but must now expand partnerships globally as the world changes in terms of trade, education, and research.
2) A Norwegian government report on internationalization of education addressed integrating an international perspective across the entire education system from primary to higher education and research.
3) The report's goals were to present the full picture of internationalization in Norwegian education and make strategic choices to improve quality, attract more international students, and ensure students gain skills for a globalized world.
Leaflet EAL Nexus September 2014
The British Council created the EAL Nexus project to help English as an additional language (EAL) learners in the UK access education and engage in their communities. The project aims to develop resources on an EAL website, build teacher capacity, support parental and community involvement, and strengthen EAL networks. It receives co-funding from the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals.

It is a truly exciting time for international education and I am honoured to be a part of this work as Australia's first Minister for International Education. The National Strategy is intended to set a ten year vision for Australian international education, placing the learner at the heart of our collective efforts. I would like our joint effort to strengthen our internationally recognised education and training services and increase collaboration with global partners as well as local communities. You may have seen the OECD's recent publication, Education at a Glance 2015, where Australia has moved to be the third most popular study destination for tertiary students. We are expecting over 635,000 enrolments in 2015, which will be a new all−time high, surpassing the previous peak in 2009. I am keen to ensure we grow international education sustainably to complement the diversification of our education and training services offshore. As an overarching whole−of−Australia strategy, the National Strategy has been developed in partnership with states and territories, businesses and the full breadth of stakeholders. Over 120 submissions were received in response to the Draft National Strategy for International Education and two roundtables were held to consult with the Australian international education community. Your feedback and ideas have been taken into account in finalising the strategy, which I intend to launch in early 2016. Implementation of the strategy will require a coordinated approach to ensure Australian international education continues to be a transformative force for our learners, communities and economies.
