The rusty crayfish is a renegade species native to the Ohio River Valley that has invaded the Great Lakes region. It has a green body with rusty spots and large claws, and harms local ecosystems by eating fish eggs, destroying vegetation, and pinching swimmers. Efforts are underway to control the rusty crayfish by prohibiting its use as bait and releasing, as well as encouraging the public to report any sightings.
