Using Visual Methods and Social Network Analysis to Explore Relationships in ...Dr Arindam Basu
The purpose of this presentation is to lay out thoughts ad generate discussions and ideas about using inter-disciplinary principles of visual research methods applied to images stored in social media, as well as social network analysis on groups, individuals, images, and documents. Then blend the two to identify hard to find problems or build agenda for investigation and actually investigate significant environmental and occupational health issues. In addition to laying out thoughts, some indicative images and instances of social network analyses have been provided in this description.
Content strategy is a process for planning how useful and usable content will be created, published, and managed for a website. It is important because having a clear content strategy prevents websites from becoming disorganized messes over time. A content strategy starts by understanding the audience and their needs, assessing what current content exists, identifying what should be kept or removed, and determining how new and existing content will be organized and maintained going forward. Key aspects of a content strategy include discovery, inventory, and management tools to keep content in good shape even as an organization's needs change.
This document discusses social determinants of health and health inequalities. It will include an interactive game to illustrate social determinants and how unequal social conditions can influence health. Differences in health status and access to health resources between populations can lead to health inequalities, some of which may be considered unfair or avoidable. Addressing social factors like poverty, living and working conditions, rather than just healthcare access, can help reduce health inequities.
This document outlines a presentation on using web publishing across curriculums. It discusses using WordPress to create websites for classes to share syllabi, schedules, assignments and other materials. Students would also use WordPress to publish content like progress reports, current event posts and assignments to gain experience in online publishing and build an online portfolio. The goals are to make course details accessible through a simple website and to model publishing behavior for students.
This document outlines Todd O'Neill's experience with various digital content strategy projects including consumer websites for non-profits and educational institutions, a mortgage lead generation site, an online video portal, a website relaunch, and an iPod application for tracking bicycle trips. The projects involved tasks such as creating navigation structures, page templates, and wireframes as well as supervising visual design and managing development requirements.

Content in a Web 2.0 world comes from many sources and goes to many places. User-generated content is one of the more challenging content sources. It makes the hundreds of channels on cable television look tame. But for large and small enterprises and organizations user generated content can be part of a cure that leads to wider knowledge sharing. During this session you'll learn what user generated content is and can be. You'll get some background on the techniques and technologies you'll need to enable it. And maybe most importantly, some ideas you can use to keep user generated content under control and channel its power to achieve your communications, training or marketing goals.
The document discusses experiential learning, which involves learning processes that take place outside the traditional classroom through direct engagement and experience. Experiential learning enhances personal and intellectual growth by allowing students to learn by doing. It can involve activities like co-ops/internships, study abroad programs, service-learning, laboratory work, and other applied learning experiences. Benefits include allowing students to sample careers, apply theories practically, broaden horizons, network, and gain work experience and confidence. Faculty also benefit by staying current with industry needs and exploring partnership opportunities.
The document discusses the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, which aims to quantify the health loss from diseases, injuries, and risk factors using the disability-adjusted life year (DALY) measure. The DALY combines years of life lost due to premature mortality and years lived with disability. The GBD 2010 study found that in 2010 there were 2.49 billion global DALYs, with 31.2% from non-fatal health outcomes and 68.8% from premature mortality. The burden of disease has shifted from communicable to noncommunicable diseases. The top causes of DALYs in 2010 were lower respiratory infections, ischemic heart disease, stroke, preterm birth complications, and road injury
The document discusses transitioning from web content management (WCM) to web content operations. It emphasizes defining services, customers, effort required, and staffing needs using an operations matrix. This helps create enough process and service while keeping things lightweight, agile, and not distracting from the core business. Defining operations helps ensure the significant investment in WCM continues providing business value after implementation.
The web created the first universal publishing platform but schools, of all levels, are still having students submit paper or “electronic documents” for grading and review. Academic work lives in private, closed systems, never exposing students to the opportunity of external feedback.
This session will propose a different approach. We require incoming college freshmen to become publishers during their first few weeks in school. They create websites and use that publishing platform to post personal reflections, current event updates … and all of their assignments. The website becomes a repository for what will be a portfolio of assignments by the time a student graduates.
Our approach could work for any discipline, but it will take a change of mindset and the acquisition of new skills and infrastructure. It’s time to change the culture of education by creating college graduates that are media literate, proficient web publishers and good digital citizens.
This document provides information about health systems in India. It notes that India has a population of over 1.2 billion people spread across 35 states with wide disparities in wealth. The ratio of health professionals to population is low at around 2 per 1000 people. It discusses the evolution of health systems from ancient times focusing on Ayurveda and the establishment of modern allopathic medicine by the British. It highlights some pioneering Indian medical innovations and researchers. It also notes the fragmented private healthcare sector in India which spends a lower percentage of GDP on healthcare compared to other countries. It argues that New Zealand and India have a longstanding friendship and opportunities to partner in areas like public health.
Online media refers to various digital media formats that can be experienced over the internet, including podcasts, webcasts, streaming video, and more. There are three main types of online media: downloading, streaming, and webcasting. Downloading involves downloading a media file to a local device where it can be played, streaming allows viewing media in real-time as it is received without being fully downloaded, and webcasting is similar to streaming but the media is never downloaded and is instead stored on a server for viewing live or on-demand. Common examples of online media include YouTube for video sharing, and podcasts which can be automatically downloaded to devices.
