Rule of thirds
1. The rule of thirds is used and applied by aligning a subject with guidelines and
intersection points. It is a guideline, which applies to the process of composing
visual images, from this, the image should be dived into 9 equal parts, and then
important compositional elements should be placed along these lines/
intersections.
The rule of thirds can apply to ‘print media’ as for things such as posters and
CD covers, they need to have the correct spacing and have the correct
attributes within the proper placing. This can link to the lines of sight within
such as the ‘primary optical area’ and the ‘terminal area’, these areas link to
the positioning within things, and thus also to print media.
