A calculus teacher sold advertising space on his tests and quizzes to cover the $500 per year printing costs after the school budget cuts resulted in him only receiving $316 for printing. He charged $10 for ads on quizzes, $20 for tests, and $30 for finals. After a local newspaper wrote about his idea, he sold out of the advertising space for the semester. Most of the ads were positive messages from parents, but some were also from local businesses.
