• COLOR PAPERS
• GEO FILTER
• Total Cost is around ₹500
3. WHAT IS RAINWATER HARVESTING?
• Rainwater harvesting is the collection and storage of rain, rather than allowing it to
run off. Rainwater is collected from a roof-like surface and redirected to a tank,
cistern, deep pit, aquifer, or a reservoir with percolation, so that it seeps down and
restores the ground water
• There are many types of rainwater harvesting. But in our project ,we implemented
‘Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting’.
• Rooftop Rain Water Harvesting is the technique through which rain water is
captured from the roof catchments and stored in reservoirs. Harvested rain water
can be stored in sub-surface ground water reservoir by adopting artificial recharge
techniques to meet the household needs through storage in tanks.
4. ADVANTAGES OF ROOFTOP
RAINWATER HARVESTING
• It is useful for many areas and its already implemented in Kenya in Africa.
• It is useful as it can save water and the method used here is called “Direct Pumping”
• Rooftop Rainwater harvesting also contributes to security, providing water during dry
seasons for small-scale agriculture. Although not every single drop of rain can and should
be harvested, rainwater is still an underutilized water source in Africa. The lack of water is a
real challenge all across Africa
• In many such countries, rainwater can be harnessed easily for domestic and agricultural use.
Harvested rainwater can also benefit the environment and ecosystem when used to enhance
groundwater recharge and restore vegetative cover. The low cost of rainwater harvesting
technologies can be a more attractive investment option in rural areas compared to
investing in a main water supply system.
• It can also prevent floods
5. DISADVANTAGES OF ROOFTOP
RAINWATER HARVESTING
• Regular maintenance is required.
• Requires some technical skills for installation.
• Limited and no rainfall can limit the supply of rainwater.
• If not installed correctly, it may attract mosquitoes and other waterborne diseases
• Rainwater storage tanks can take up valuable space around your house
• Capital cost of rainwater harvesting systems can be high.
