10 Leadership Lessons From Clint Eastwood’s Cowboy MoviesAndrew Wood
With the exception of John Wayne, who many younger people may not have seen, no one did ‘cowboy’ like Clint Eastwood.
His iconic portrayal of the Man with No Name in a string of low budget westerns, later called “Spaghetti westerns” launched him to superstardom and created one of the most endearing franchises in movie history. Later in such classics as The Outlaw Jose Wales, Pale Rider and the Unforgiven he continued to entertain us while delivering some classic lessons in leadership.

• In March 1993, the artificial feeding and hydration of
22-year-old Tony Bland was withdrawn after nearly
four years, during which he had been in a persistent
vegetative state and shown no sign of improvement.
Andrew Devine, aged 26 at the time, suffered similarly
and was later diagnosed as being in a persistent
vegetative state, but in March 1997 – a month short of
eight years – it was reported that he had emerged from
the condition and was now able to communicate using
a touch-sensitive pad. Thus, Tony Bland was the final
victim.
• Jon-Paul Gilhooley was the youngest victim. He had
died aged 10. It is said that it was his death that
inspired his cousin, a famous footballer, to reach the
heights that he did in his career.
• What caused the deaths of Bland and Gilhooley?

• Due to his desire for accuracy, X added the logo of a real-life airline,
Y, to the crash debris in one of his comics. This upset Y and a
representative complained to X about the adverse publicity that
they might suffer, arguing, "It's scandalous, none of our aircraft has
ever crashed. You have done us a considerable wrong." Y had
cooperated closely with X, facilitating his research by providing
voluminous reading material, contemporary photographs, and film
footage of India and Nepal, especially of Delhi and Kathmandu. The
crashed aircraft's tail number remained "VT", the correct country

capabilities of beating everybody. She’s laidback, she’s a very nice,

Cameron's imagination, similar to the plot of X, and Sloane is a girl
Cameron secretly loves but hasn't ever interacted with before. Sloane's
boyfriend is ___(1)____, again similar to the plot of X where the

less than one day is that Cameron is alone, just imagining it all. This

• Some critics also argue that X is an unoffcial sequel to Y and that

80. 13. These are the characters of a show called The
Honeymooners. What famous TV show did they
inspire?
Ralph Kramden: He is frustrated by his lack of success, and often develops get-rich-quick-
schemes. Ralph is very short tempered, frequently resorting to bellowing, insults and hollow
threats. Well hidden beneath the many layers of bluster however, is a soft-hearted man who
loves his wife and is devoted to his best pal. He enjoys bowling, playing pool and being a
member in the Loyal Order of Raccoon Lodge.
Alice Kramden : Ralph's patient, level-headed but sharp-tongued wife of 15 years. She often
finds herself bearing the brunt of Ralph's insults, which she returns with biting sarcasm.
Edward Norton: Ralph's best friend (and upstairs neighbour). He is considerably more good-
natured than Ralph, but nonetheless trades insults with him on a regular basis. Ed often gets
mixed up in Ralph's schemes, and his carefree and rather dimwitted nature usually results in
raising Ralph's ire, while Ralph often showers him with verbal abuse and throws him out of
the apartment when Ed irritates him.
Trixie Norton: Ed's wife and Alice's best friend. She did not appear on every episode and had
a less developed character, though she is shown to be bossy towards her husband.

This came from a practice of football referees to

Why did the referees do this?

way viewers could differentiate between the yellow

the cards from different pockets

she does not like any of his films since they have only "policemen,

read the printing on the card inside the envelope, became confused, or
was too "drunk" or "stoned" to announce the winner properly.
• However, this theory was disproved when the Academy explained that two

Awards ceremony since 1953 just in case such a situation should arise. If a
wrong name were ever read, one of the officials would immediately step

157. Rude Removal is an episode segment of the a popular TV series
X. The episode was produced during the original run of X, but the
channel refused to let it air due to the characters swearing, even
though the swear words were censored.
The title card for "Rude Removal" shows B gesturing with her
middle finger as well as A mooning towards the audience.
A invents The Rude Removal System, a machine to remove
the rudeness from his sister B. However, B thinks A is the one
who is rude, so they start fighting and wander into the machine.
Inadvertently, the Rude Removal System is activated, splitting the
pair into well-behaved and rude halves. This creates two evil,
rude duplicates, who use profanity and harbor destructive
tendencies. The evil clones proceed to insult their mother and
destroy the house. A and B now have to stop their rude halves
from causing trouble and consequently being punished by their
Mom, who believes the actions of the evil clones were that of her
children.
