What should an Administrator expect a
School Library Media Specialist to be?
A Library Media Specialist is a teacher. They work with students in the library media center,
the computer lab, and the classroom. They teach students how to be information literate.

A Library Media Specialist is a collaborator. They work with teachers to plan, instruct,
and evaluate student learning. They work with administrators to implement building-wide
initiatives and the school improvement plan.

A Library Media Specialist is a resource locator. They help you find answers to questions
and help find resources (all kinds) to support instruction and make informed decisions.

A Library Media Specialist is a communicator. They talk, email, and share with
administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community members. They communicate
about how the library media program directly relates to the vision of the school.

A Library Media Specialist is a leader. Administrators and teachers see them as a leader.
They are active on school committees, contribute to building initiatives, and are respected
                           for their thoughts and ideas.

A Library Media Specialist is a professional development provider. They design and present
professional development that supports the school improvement plan.

A Library Media Specialist is an innovator. They are willing to try new things. They are
looking for new ways to get even better. They are creative in working around obstacles.

A Library Media Specialist has a global perspective. They work with everyone in the school,
so they can see the dynamics of the entire building.

A Library Media Specialist loves to learn. They love to learn about new ideas and strategies
for working with students and teachers. They want to be lifelong learners and model that for
                           their students and teachers.

A Library Media Specialist is a technology integrator. They are a leader in using technology
in their instruction. They work to help administrators see how technology can be used
                           effectively and guide purchasing decisions.

But most of all, the Library Media Specialist does not work alone. For a school to have a
successful library media program it takes everyone (the library media specialist, teacher,
administrators, and the library media staff) working together for the benefit of the students.

reproduce the material within the building in which you work.
