"Restorative Justice is an ethos with practical
goals, among which is to restore harm by
including affected parties in an encounter
(direct or indirect) and a process of
  understanding through voluntary and honest
dialogue. Restorative justice adopts a fresh
approach to conflicts and their control, retaining
at the same time certain rehabilitative goals"

               (Gavrielides 2007)

• Repair
Justice requires that we work to heal victims,

• Repair
Justice requires that we work to heal victims,
offenders and communities that have been

• Stakeholder participation
Victims, offenders, and communities should
have the opportunity for active involvement
in the justice process and as fully as possible.

• Transformation in community and government
The relative rôles and responsibilities can be
rethought, and this might be the most
challenging aspect of restorative justice. In
promoting justice, government is responsible
for preserving a just order, and community for
establishing a just peace.
