On January 25th, 2011 protests began in Egypt against President Hosni Mubarak and his 30-year rule. Hundreds of thousands of protesters flooded Cairo's central Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the popular revolt, calling for Mubarak to step down. Clashes broke out between supporters and opponents of Mubarak's regime, leaving several dead and over 1,000 injured. Despite Mubarak reshuffling his government and introducing reforms, the massive protests continued as anger grew and protesters rejected any solution that did not involve Mubarak's immediate resignation.
