• The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program (2015): Program of highly competitive, merit-based grants for
international educational exchange for students. Final grant outcome pending.
• The Rhodes Scholarship, Finalist (2014): Competitive scholarship for study at The University of Oxford
• Harry S. Truman Scholar (2014): Competitive federally funded scholarship for college juniors recognizing
“demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to public service”.
• REALITY Scholar (2014): Competitive scholarship funded by the Schusterman Family Foundation. Scholars
travel to Israel (planned for December 2014) and meet with a variety of Israeli governmental, business, and
religious leaders to engage on issues of leadership, identity, and social change.
• Newman Civic Fellow (2013): Sponsored by Campus Compact to recognize student leaders with demonstrated
success in finding solutions to challenges facing communities throughout the country.
• Hunger Champion of the Year, Harvesters Food Network of Kansas City (2013)
• Morse Scholar (2012): Supported an undergraduate project that involves community service and has the
potential to impact public policy.
Community Leadership and Engagement
• The Community CORE Foundation, Co-Founder and Board Chairman (May 2013-current): Community CORE,
a 501c3 community development non-profit, works to provide spaces to live, work, play, and grow for people
in rural communities. Our inaugural project was the repurposing of an abandoned gym into a community
center in Soldier, KS. We have also obtained a plot of land for an economic development business incubator
and currently coordinate a mobile library and food assistance program for local low income youth. Long-term
goals include establishment of low-income housing and a not-for-profit filling station.
• Community Cinema (Spring 2012-current): As an affiliate of Independent Lens and PBS, hosted screenings of
documentaries that approached social issues and then facilitated dialogues following the film with groups
ranging from 50 to 120 participants
• Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration Planning Committee, Member (Spring 2012-current): Helped
plan an annual celebration and day of remembrance on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Attended monthly
planning meetings, did student and community outreach, managed print and social media
• Life Choice Ministries (August 2011– Spring 2012): Administrative assistant filing adoption paperwork
• King Solomon Christian Summer Camp (2008-current) – Counsel 1st – 4th graders in groups from 15 to 130
• County-level campaign manager, Lynn Jenkins for Congress (summer 2012)
• Co-campaign manager, Richard Carlson for Kansas State House of Representatives (summer 2012)

• HandsOn Kansas State: Student Program Coordinator (2011-current): Develop service and civic learning
opportunities which foster relationships between students and local nonprofits. Activities coordinated
regularly include mobile food distributions, community clean-ups, youth literacy events, film screening civic
discourses, and senior-care assistance.
• Class Leader (May 2013 – May 2014): Recitation instructor for Introduction to Leadership Concepts (LEAD
212) class. Facilitated small group discussions, led active-learning exercises, graded papers, and assisted high
risk freshmen in adjusting to a university setting.
• Intern for Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (Summer 2012): Attended briefings, wrote summaries, researched
legislation, led tours of the U.S. Capitol, handled constituent phone and mail correspondences, general office
work
• Prairie Wind Cattle Company (Summers, 2007-current): Worked as foreman raising cattle, haying,
maintaining fence, etc.
Student Leadership
• Director of Events, Blue Key Senior Leadership Honorary (2014-current): Blue Key Honor Society is a premier
honor society that recognizes college students at senior institutions of higher education for balanced and all-
around excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. Serve as a mentor to three incoming freshman, act
as primary instructor in a self-development class for underclassmen, and coordinated a campus-wide
Leadership Appreciation Reception.
