Ellen Goulmy, born in 1981, started her career in photography and had a career as a journalist
prior to become a lighting designer.
She fell in love with light and lighting by accident during an job interview at a high end modern
lighting store in Amsterdam. After working there for 2 years switched jobs to start a lighting
store as a part of a big furniture store which became very successful.
In 2008 she founded her own company named Poncius based in Bilthoven, the Netherlands.
Poncius Light & design started as a high end designstore with 75% lighting and 25% design
related products. Within 7 years it became a very well known lighting design studio. More and
more focused on lighting design in stead of selling.
Around may 2012 Ellen decided to make the switch to become completely independent.
Closing down a business takes time and one year later she closed the studio and started
working at Berlux lichtarchitectuur based in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. (since april 2013). A
lighting designpractice founded by Berry van Egten IALD in 1993.
Ellen is involved in interior lighting, exterior lighting and daylight design. Berlux' clients are
around the world and include projects like the Museum park Rotterdam (NL), lighting
masterplan for Culemborg (NL) and more. The last projects Ellen worked for a as a designer
included a public swimming pool, church and serveral residential projects.
Since she's working as an independent architectural lighting designer she had the privilege
working on several projects in the field of residential, hospitality, facades, sports and outdoor.
Next to her work as an lighting designer about 25% of her time she is active within education
through the Lighting Design Academy (LDA). LDA offers about 20 courses, workshops,
seminars in The Netherlands and since 2015 also in Belgium (Gent).
Together with colleque Berry van Egten she is responsabele for inspiring others in there
passion for light!
