While environmental ethics and injustices are related, they can also be separate issues at times. Many populations living in poverty or below the poverty line do not have access to basic human rights like clean water, food, and shelter. When environmental issues or disasters occur due to unethical placement of hazardous materials in poor neighborhoods, these populations are often not protected from unfair environmental risks and their living conditions can be made worse. As the world's population grows, there is a rising need for basic resources like water, but not all people have access to clean drinking water, and without experiencing this lack of access firsthand, it can be difficult to truly empathize with those affected.
