Ultimately, Peter passed away with his dying words telling Jane to marry his friend.
Jane Rose and Peter Redford were sweethearts in WWII Britain, staying connected through letters while Peter was at war. When Peter receives a fatal injury that causes him to lose his memory, Jane is unaware as she waits for him at the train station as planned. She later learns that Peter's friend had been writing the letters for him, and she falls in love with his friend instead.
