Research into Photography

In researching Photography similar to my brief, I have come across a
Photographer called Natalie Kinnear
(http://www.nataliekinnearphotography.co.uk/), who has a
photography blog containing musical instrument photos that echo my
own. She is similar in the way that she has taken close up photos of the
fretboards and main body of the guitars in a light that makes them look
very slick. I have done the same in taking angled shots that highlight the
scale and sleekness of the instruments. Below is a comparison between
her work and my own:

The only major difference is that the guitar in Natalie Kinnear’s photo is
easily recognisable as the Stratocaster, whereas I pay tribute to a lesser
known brand – Danelectro. The light in both photos adds nicely to the
guitars, as if glowing off of them.

Another photographer that I have looked at is Charles Webster, another
photographer with an online blog dedicated to his photography of
guitars (http://www.guitarphotography.com/blog/). He specialises
more in full body shots of the guitars, which echoes some of my photos
as well. Below are some comparisons between his work and my own:

Although professional, Webster’s work is somewhat plain, mainly
because he doesn’t utilize the Rule of Thirds (the rule that objects
placed in the dead centre of a shot make the photo less interesting to
look at. One feature however that I do like about Webster’s work is that
he photographs very unusual and unique guitars which are very
interesting to look at and compensate for the lack of background and
the Rule of Thirds. In my picture, I decided to mix it up by radically
slanting the picture to make it look more interesting. A nice aesthetic
quality is that the Stratocaster is resting on a poster of Jimi Hendrix,
who was famous for using the Stratocaster almost exclusively through
his career.
