Representation
By Charley Presland
What is representation?
 Representation is how an artist or band represent their social groups
depending on the type of music genre they usually tend to work with.
This could be anything from:
 Rap-This is usually energetic and is used for the younger age.
 Rock-The social groups for this genre is for depressed teenagers that need
an understanding of how they are feeling but in lyric wise. This then
allows them to hide how they feel.
Many other genres have social groups such as Country, Pop, House, Garage,
Club, R&B ect.
This usually depends on the way the social groups are and how they like
to represent themselves.
Will Smith
 Will Smith is an Actor turned singer. He is
most famous for being in the popular sit-
com The Fresh Prince of Bel-are
(September 10th, 1990-May 20th, 1996).
 Smiths rapping career had started in the
1980‟s. However, Will avoided tax
payment and eventually went bankrupt.
That was when the Fresh Prince of Bel-air
took him on.
 During that time, Will eventually got his
rapping career soaring. He done over 42
songs since 1997. This was able to properly
start of Smiths career as his dream had
once down with himself and Jazzy-J Jeff
within the 80‟s.
Wild, Wild West
 “Wild Wild West” is the title of a hip hop song co-
written by Will Smith as the theme song for Smith's film
of the same name. The song also appears on Smith's 1999
album, Willenium. Will Smith's 1999 release was
recorded specifically for Smith's planned summer
blockbuster movie, Wild Wild West. Smith's song
became a number-one pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100,
and its extended music video, directed by Paul Hunter,
was a hit on MTV. Will Smith's "Wild Wild West" single
samples Stevie Wonder's song "I Wish", with parts of the
chorus from Kool Moe Dee's song of the same name as
well. Kool Moe Dee re-performs that chorus for the song,
with additional guest vocals from R&B group Dru Hill.
The song won Golden Raspberry Award for Worst
Original Song. This song also appeared in the Wii
console game Just Dance 4.
Steam punk
 During the song feature of Wild, Wild west, steam
punk was used to symbolize machinery being used
back in the Western culture.
With it being used in Will smith‟s
video, it is a vital part as steam
punk is usually used in the
stereotypical cowboy movies.
Cowboys
 With the Cowboys being very commonly thought
about when we think about the West, it is a very
classical way on how to represent the „Wild West‟
theme.
