1. How will we distribute these donated and
fundraised respite benefits?
Through the application process set up on our web site:
respiteendowment.org.
Will REO be providing actual respite services
and care?
Yes, in the Lisle and Naperville areas only - depending on
availability. In-home respite care is a part of our
programming and gift options. However, our resources
are limited to the above listed areas for now. Respite care
is provided and coordinated through our care partner
Bright Star Kidcare of Naperville. Bright Star can
coordinate caretaking service with certified in-home
caregivers or nursing staff.
Respite is a GIFT OF TIME.
Respite Breaks are designed to help families of
children with special needs. Breaks give caregivers
some much-needed time off allowing them to get
out of the house, visit with friends or have quiet
time alone.
Often the question is asked....
"Who takes care of the caregiver?”
Caregivers include parents, but also brothers and
sisters, grandparents as well. Our main concern is -
If you don’t take care of yourself - how can you
take care of them?
Who We Are:
REO was created by a group of visionary parents and
professionals who care and understand how important
respite breaks are to caregivers.
Our Mission:
To provide respite gifts, education, opportunities and
solutions to parents of children with special needs,
focusing on families who do not qualify for State or
Federal funding.
Our Programs:
Respite Gifts: Massage therapy, movie tickets, dinner,
entertainment and shopping gift cards and donated
overnight hotel stays.
Respite Education:
Community awareness seminars -
who we are, why so important,
what resources are out there and
how to get involved.
Respite opportunities:
Sponsored respite afternoons and
activities where parents drop off
children for 2 to 3 hours while
parents go out for a break.
What makes us unique?
We will fill the gap of the non-state and federally funded
aid of parent caregiver respite. REO offers respite
opportunities to children with IEP’s , moderate to mild,
and for families of special needs, no matter what their
income level or disability. We want them to be
knowledgeable about what respite is, when to take it,
how important it is, and where to get it.
Why the need for respite breaks are so important?
Children with disabilities are, on average, 3 to 3.5 times
more likely to be maltreated and victims of neglect than
children without disabilities. Research has demonstrated
that respite (caregiver breaks) is an effective way to
reduce child neglect and maltreatment.
Who will benefit from our efforts?
The parents, guardians and caregivers of special needs
children in Lisle and Naperville, Illinois and surrounding
areas if qualified.
