El acelerado crecimiento de la Argentina en la década pasada provocó un fuerte incremento de la demanda de energía. Para satisfacerla, se optó por focalizar la inversión en centrales de generación térmica. Esto trajo consigo un aumento muy importante de la demanda de gas, el cual no fue acompañado por la producción nacional. Así, la importación tanto de gas como de gasoil y fueloil se multiplicó, lo que impactó sobre las cuentas externas y, debido a los subsidios, también sobre las fiscales. El presente artículo analiza el impacto del déficit energético sobre la situación macroeconómica argentina en los últimos años y esboza ciertas líneas de acción para recuperar el equilibrio en la balanza energética.
