The remote workforce refers to workers who do not work in a traditional office setting but rather from remote locations including home offices. According to a Forrester Research report, 34 million Americans worked remotely in 2013 and by 2016 that number is projected to grow to 63 million. There are several types of remote work arrangements including hybrid employees who work some days in an office and some remotely, full-time remote employees, and outsourced contractors. Employers benefit greatly from remote work arrangements through increased ability to attract and retain top talent, reduced real estate and other costs, and increased productivity from remote employees.
