1. 2015-2016 Season EAH
Theatre in the Round Players
Black Coffee
Rehearsal Report #8
Saturday, October 24, 2015
GENERAL:
1. Rehearsal was a whirlwind today! We staged the majority of Act 1 today,
including the dreaded coffee cup scene (tracking all those cups! Oy!)
2. We worked on scenes 1A, B, and C (7-14) and scenes 1E, F, G, and H (17-32)
3. Please turn in your bios (yellow form) to Pat Moses’ mailbox this week.
SCENERY:
1. Discussion: we will need to figure out together Lucia putting the spills in the
fireplace in Act 3. You showed me that the fireplace may not open up enough
to drop paper in, so we definitely need to look at that and talk about that.
PROPS:
1. Thank you for all the props today! There’s nothing like getting props on the
stage
2. We would like to switch out the sherry for cognac. Sorry!
3. Also, let’s figure out between you and Morgan what we are doing in terms of
handbags. I have a suitcase for Carelli, but we still need handbags for Lucia
and Barbara.
4. I did work on updating the prop list a little bit this weekend (which is on the
google drive) and I will try to continue to keep on top of it! Thank you for
being patient with me!
COSTUMES, WIGS, AND MAKEUP:
1. Thank you, Morgan, for coming in to get Matthew’s measurements!
2. Would it be possible, do you suppose, to get some rehearsal shoes out for the
near future?
3. Also, let’s figure out between you and Bobbie what we are doing in terms of
handbags. I have a suitcase for Carelli, but we still need handbags for Lucia
and Barbara.
LIGHTING:
1. At the top of the show, the script says Tredwell turns on the lights in the
room. We will probably have the lights just be on, and he’ll just go straight to
the phone. At least, that’s the current plan!
2. 2015-2016 Season EAH
2. For the specials in Act 1: (as poison is being administered) Lucia will be at
the hexagon table to put hers in. Raynor will be standing just to the side
(towards the back lobby vom) to put his in, and finally Richard will actually
“Irish” the coffee by putting in some whiskey or cognac at the Section E half
moon table.
SOUND:
1. Discussion: we need to figure out if we want to have the faint hum of voices
when people enter and exit the dining room and how that would look as far
as beginning and ending when doors open and close (since we have no door)
2. I talked to Bobbie today about the bell-push and whether it would make
sound inside the room. We thought no, it would not, because it would ring in
the servant’s hall (like in Downton Abbey). So I will remove those cues from
the list!
ADMINISTRATION:
1. We moved our coffee and tea to the Section D corner of the room and have
had no further problems with blown fuses or power outages. Thanks!
