7. MASU Constitution A Constitution is a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed. The SAC underwent a process of renewing our foundational document to better reflect the true value and goals of our organization.
8. MASU Constitution The Union’s current Constitution deals with more procedural matters than foundational principles. For example, our current Constitution states that our sole objective is to: “ give the student a formal and united means of expression and to administer student affairs within the limits of, and in accordance with, the procedures prescribed in this constitution and any attached bylaws.” We think this is not enough!
9. MASU Constitution The amended Constitution outlines our objectives as: a. to represent and be the primary advocate for all students; b. to advance the education of its Members; c. to promote substantive student participation in all aspects of University governance; d. to promote public, universally accessible, high-quality postsecondary education; and e. to provide the administrative capacity necessary to enable students to participate in the educational, cultural, and social activities to which they have access by reason of being students.
10. MASU Constitution The amended Constitution also includes how the Union will pursue our objectives: a. by acting as the primary channel of communication between students and all governing facets of the University; b. by communicating and cooperating with governing bodies within the University; c. by providing a medium through which a collective voice to the views of students can be substantiated; d. by representing students at the local, provincial, national, and all other appropriate levels; and e. through the supply of services to students and student organizations and the promotion of their educational, cultural, and social activities.
