The City of Gautier Recreation Advisory Committee was formed with 8 members to coordinate and improve recreational facilities, advise the City Council, and recommend a master plan for recreation and open spaces. The committee is recommending using $5 million in available funds from a 2% tax on restaurant/bar sales and room rentals to build a new $1.1 million U12 baseball complex, improve existing neighborhood parks, and construct a new $2.3 million multi-purpose recreation center. Other recommendations include improvements to Shepard State Park and funding for paddling opportunities. A community survey found high priority needs included new football and baseball facilities and a recreation center.
