Dementia is a mental disorder that affects over 35 million people worldwide and is projected to double over the next 20 years. For those in long-term residential care, over 40% of elderly residents have dementia. People with dementia can become quickly agitated and verbally or physically aggressive, exhibiting behaviors like kicking, hitting, or pushing. Recognizing aggressive movements and body language in those with dementia is challenging but important, as signals include anxiety, moodiness, agitation, trouble concentrating, and aggressive stances like jaw thrusting, nostril flaring, and chest puffing.
