2. What is Skimming
• Skimming is a high-speed reading technique to look for important things or
main ideas from a reading. This technique is very useful because we only
need to skim and quickly but get the overall and general impression of the
reading.

4. Steps of skimming for Review a book or article
• Read the article title.
• Read the first paragraph in a complete article.
• Note if there are subtitles, know the purpose of the subtitles and associate with the essence
of the article.
• Read the first sentence in each paragraph because usually the first sentence is the main idea
of a paragraph.
• Pay attention to every picture, diagram, or graph.
• Note words that are italicized or bold.
• Read the last paragraph.

• Steps to read skimming to find a book
1. make questions about what we will look for from a book.
2. browse the table of contents or introduction, whether the information
we need exists or not.
3. browse at high speed each paragraph or sub-section of the reading.

• The main objective of skimming is to find / understand the main
points and the central idea of the text with quickly.
• People often skim when they have a lot of material to read in a
limited amount of time.
• Examine a chapter in a book, before studying it seriously so that
you get an idea of the general scope of the chapter to be studied..

forever. For example, a Macedonian coins remains as untarnished to day as the day it was
minted twenty-three centuries ago. Another important characteristic of gold is usefulness
to industry and science. For many years, it has been used in hundreds of industrial
applications. The most recent use of gold is in astronaut's suits. Astronauts wear
goldplated heat shields for protection outside spaceships. In conclusion, gold is treasured
not only for its beauty but also for its utility.
