1. How to Celebrate National Park Week in Fort Worth
FORT WORTH, April 15 – With the arrival of spring, the weather clearing up and National Park
Week taking place April 18 - 26, there is no better way to spend it than at the Fort Worth Nature
Center & Refuge. With over 20 miles of hiking trails, wetlands and prairies the FWNC&R marks
the perfect spot for outdoor fun.
National Park Week is celebrated across the U.S. and is a great opportunity for the community
to engage in outdoor activities. Although the FWNC&R is not considered a national park but a
nature center that should not discourage you from enjoying the nature center’s facilities.
Whether you’re looking to participate in outdoor activities or a place to relax, the FWNC&R is a
perfect option. Here are a few events and ideas that will make your National Park Week
celebration memorable.
National Guard: On Saturdays the FWNC&R hosts their ‘National Guard’ program
which gathers volunteers to assist in trail maintenance, bridge building, and brush
clearing. Nothing like giving back and volunteering. This event is from 9 a.m. – noon.
Nature Hike: The National Guard is followed by the ‘Nature Hike’ which a naturalist
takes you on a journey through the trails of the FWNC&R from 10 a.m. – noon. Put on
your hiking boots as you travel through the nature center and see the beautiful scenery.
Native Bees: After the Nature Hike, there will be a presentation about the importance of
bee and their pollination of over 70 percent of plant species. This is an exciting event that
only takes place April 18. The event runs from 1:30 – 4 p.m.
Canoe Tour: Sure waterparks are fun but riding in a canoe is more entertaining. Come
paddle and enjoy the West Fork of the Trinity River. Enjoy the
Evening Stroll: This activity is a stroll on the trail when during the sunsets. Here in
Texas we know how the beautiful the sunsets can be. Whether you’re hiking with your
family, by yourself or with your significant other and evening stroll will suffice a
relaxing evening. This event takes place at 7:30 – 9 p.m. on April 23.
There are plenty of other activities that are available at the nature center. There are designated
picnic areas where you can hang out and enjoy the outdoors while eating a prepared meal. There
is plenty of space where you can enjoy the outdoors freely. Whatever you decide to participate
in, the FWNC&R is available for National Park Week.
Some of the events at the FWNC&R do charge, if you have any information contact the

3. Dear Celeste Williams:
In a recent study by the Outdoor Foundation outdoor recreation had reached its highest
participation level in 2011 with nearly half of the U.S. population enjoying some form of outdoor
activities.
An article that focuses on outdoor activities always profits because it informs the public about
physical activities that families and non-families can engage in. National Park Week is a weekly
observance that celebrates national parks and will take place April 18 – 25. The highlight of this
article will include information about the celebrating National Park Week at the Fort Worth
Nature Center & Refuge.
The Article will include information about the events that are taking place during this week. It
will also include other activities that families can value as leisure time which would include
hiking, having a picnic and just enjoying the beauty of the Nature Center.

I have spent the past semester working with the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge to
strategically rebrand their image. The Nature Center is a beautiful facility that is a considered a
‘hidden gem’ in the heart of Fort Worth. I also have spent the past semester writing news and
features releases as well as creating a strategic plan for the FWNC&R.
Sincerely,
Raymond Diaz
