Introduction:
The Raspberry Pi was created by the Raspberry Pi
Foundation, a UK-based charity organization that aims to
promote the study of computer science and related fields,
especially among young people.
The foundation was established in 2008, and its founders
include Eben Upton, Rob Mullins, Jack Lang, and Alan
Mycroft, who were all members of the University of
Cambridge's Computer Laboratory.
What is Raspberry Pi ?
Raspberry Pi is a small, low-cost computer
that was created by the Raspberry Pi
Foundation in the UK.
Basic Diagram of Raspberry Pi :
Raspberry Pi Models :
•Pi 1 Model B (2012)
•Pi 1 Model A (2013)
•Pi 1 Model B+ (2014)
•Pi 1 Model A+ (2014)
•Pi 2 Model B (2015)
•Pi Zero (2015)
•Pi 3 Model B (2016)
•Pi Zero W (2017)
Raspberry Pi and IoT :
• IoT is an evolving technology that allows users to communicate
wirelessly with other devices from distant locations.
• It is cost-effective and easy to access devices from remote locations if
IoT technology is used with Raspberry Pi.
• Raspberry Pi is regulated by its GPIO pins.
• Using the IoT technology with Raspberry Pi 3 allows you to monitor
and control devices remotely, collect and exchange data and create
automation systems with relative ease.
• Moreover, Raspberry Pi 3 can be expanded by adding different
sensors and modules.
Advantages :
• Low cost (~35$ = 2,882.16 Indian Rupee)
• Huge processing power in a compact board.
• Many interfaces (HDMI, multiple USB, Ethernet, onboard Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth, many GPIOs, USB powered, etc.)
• Supports Linux, Python (making it easy to build applications)
Alternatives For Raspberry Pi :
•Libre Computer Board AML-S905X- CC (Le
Potato)
•Orange Pi 5.
•Asus Tinker Board S R2.0.
•ODROID N2+
•Banana Pi BPI-M6.
•ROCKPro64.
•NanoPi R4S.
•BeagleBone Black.
Conclusion :
• Although Raspberry Pi was intended to be used for kids to learn
programming, it being related to “Edge Computing” has made it
compatible with IoT.
• Now we can confidently as that, it’ll play a key role in the future of
IoT.
• Being able to perform both as a Computer and a Microcontroller, it
can very well be used for prototyping in IoT
