n the ever-changing landscape of student demographics and diversity initiatives, teachers and school employees face the challenge of creating environments that go beyond celebrations of heroes and holidays. Whether we are educators beginning the journey or far down the path into multiculturalism and inclusivity, there is always room to grow. What are some practical strategies and best practices to become the educator with whom all children, families, and colleagues thrive?
As we engage in conversations about diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice in our schools, we often run into sticky points or misconceptions about systems of oppression and privilege. What are some useful examples and language we can use to explain concepts clearly and effectively? What are some tools for navigating "ouch" moments like microaggressions, whether we received it, witnessed it, or perpetrated it?
CoMo: Supporting collaborative groupwork using mobile phones in distant educa...niall
The CoMo project used mobile phones to support collaborative group work for distance learning students at the Royal Veterinary College. Students used their phones to capture photos of clinical cases, share them with peers and tutors, and document case progression over time. This helped support knowledge construction and provided tutors insight into what students were focusing on. Future research could explore more effective pedagogical designs for mobile learning and how multiple contexts can be supported through location-based tools and lightweight social interactions.

1. Ranking your newspaper or magazine website
If you’re not being seen on the first page of search engines, you’re not being seen. 87% of web
research stops on page one, and then the researcher changes their search if they haven’t
found what they are looking for. If you’re not being seen, your advertisers are also not being
seen, and they don’t like that. Think about it – if you wanted to advertise your business through
a local media outlet, you also would choose the newspaper or magazine or blog that came up
early.
Ranking well on search engines etc. all falls under “Search Engine Optimisation” or SEO.
SEO is a broad area of work that encompasses everything from how your site is setup to regular
fresh, keyword aware content and social networking integration. Certainly you will be off to a
great start with our site because it is built compliant to best practice and WordPress is arguably
the best platform in the world for SEO.
The rules are always changing as Google endeavours to stay ahead of the fakes and deliver
users the most relevant content to their searches. The latest overhaul was ‘Penguin’ and that
killed a LOT of amateurs, which is not a bad thing. The idea is make research easier. We offer
SEO services to all our customers, and even if your budget does not permit you to take up our
services, you might get some good ideas there. You won’t find anything out there even close to
services at those prices. We also offer an ‘shot-in-the-arm’ of 2-days of dedicated SEO work
on your site for all the biggies.
There are also plenty of do-it-yourself downloads and websites to really get you started. I would
recommend anyone moving into online business get their head around this stuff, so don’t be
shy to dip your feet.
Ultimately, SEO is an ongoing process that needs consistent attention. I’m about to write
another blog for my own business, not because I have any spare energy left over at 9pm after a
7am start, but because it’s essential to keep informing the world of new ideas and strategies for
publishing. Google now knows that my content is good and tends to be well received, so it will
also include my article in its news feeds on publishing and in turn the more people who view it
will all go towards the juices that help us get found, just like you found us!
