Malcolm hears gunfire while walking to a store and runs away in fear. The police see him running from the scene and arrest him, even though he is innocent. As Malcolm does not speak English well, he cannot explain himself. In jail, Malcolm loses hope, believing he will be there forever. However, his lawyer reassures him that he has not been found guilty yet and has a right to a public trial, where the prosecution must prove his guilt.
