Wearegatheredheretodayinthememoryofmysister,ourmom,daughter,niece,friend,colleague,
neighbor- Rachael Muthoni Karanja, so that together we may acknowledge and share both our joy
in the gift that her life was to us, and the pain that her passing brings. In sharing the joy and the
pain together today, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.
Rachael was only 42 years when she passed away on Friday, August 3rd
, 2018 at Kenyatta National
Hospital, Nairobi. It’s hard to say goodbye. We wish that we had more time, and perhaps that
during the time we had we had spent more of it together. While we know that she is at peace and
that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. But even though she is gone, she has
left the legacy of her love, perseverance, forgiveness with a call to live right with God. The ways
she touched our lives will remain, and I ask you to keep those memories alive by sharing them with
me and with one another.
On 12th
October, 1975 at 6am in the morning at Mater Hospital – Nairobi County, a beautiful baby
girl was born to her parents Cecilia Wanjiku Karanja and Isaac Muniu Karanja and they named her
Rachael Muthoni. She was the third born and the first born girl. Her elder brothers are Benson
Muniu, James Mbatia and her siblings are Isabel Wairimu, Susan Njeri and Margaret Wanjiru.
Rachael begun her education at Moi Forces Nursery School. She graduated to St. Theresa’s Primary
School and later transferred to St. George’s Primary School where she completed her Primary
education. Subsequently, she graduated in carrying on with her Secondary education and joined
Ruiru Secondary School and later transferred to Loreto Convent Musongari Girls School where
she completed her Secondary education. She later joined college to study various courses on
counseling and psychology.
“I knew her as a jolly, warm and friendly girl” primary teacher, Mr. Ngugi.
Rachael gave her life to Christ and begun a relationship with Jesus at an evangelical prayer meeting
that she had been invited by her eldest brother – Benson. She was baptized while in ministry and
she served the Lord with passion in various ministries and always pursued the word of God.
The Promotion to Glory of
RACHAEL MUTHONI KARANJA
6. She begun to serve in the worship ministry at the age of 9 years while at PCEA Lang’ata church and
continued at her adult life where she served in the Choir at the King’s Outreach Church. She owned
and loved to worship God with her tambourine.
Rachael was blessed with three children: Jason Mbugua, Andrew Karanja and Shalom Wanjiku. She
loved them dearly ensuring they had a good education and strived hard to provide for each one
of them. She taught them the love of Christ, the importance of relying on God and working hard.
Nothing would hinder Rachael in pursuit of her love for Christ, not even infirmity. Rachael fell ill
when she had come for a crusade in Central Park, Nairobi. She joined her friend Jesus at 1.00pm
after 4 weeks of admission where she had been preaching too, to other patients and the medical
practitioners. She ascended to Heaven while they were praying with her sister Margaret and
friends.
Rachael is survived by her three children, brothers, sisters, cousins, Aunties, Uncles, Grand parents,
other relatives and friends.
Rachael left us with a legacy of love: Mathew 22:36-40 and forgiveness Mathew 6:14-15 and living
a righteous life: Isaiah 6:1-12
This is a wonderful legacy. This is a wonderful example to follow. Implementing the greatest
commandment and living in peace with everyone, not only when your life is easy, but when it is
difficult too.
I conclude with 23rd
Psalm, ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’.
The Twenty Third Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of
the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; Thy rod and
thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
of mine enemies: thou anointest my head
with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life: and I will
dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
7. Hymns
BLESSED ASSURANCE
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
NI TABIBU WA KARIBU
Ni tabibu wa karibu; tabibu wa ajabu;
na rehema za daima; ni dawa yake njema.
Imbeni, malaika, sifa za Yesu Bwana;
pweke limetukuka jina lake Yesu.
Hatufai kuwa hai, wala hatutumai,
ila yeye kweli ndiye atupumzishaye.
Dhambi pia na hatia ametuchukulia;
Twenendeni na amani hata kwake mbinguni.
Huliona tamu jina, la Yesu kristo Bwana,
yuna sifa mwenye kufa asishindwe na kufa.
Kila mume asimame, sifa zake zivume;
Wanawake na washike kusifu jina lake.
Na vijana wote tena, wampendao sana,
waje kwake wawe wake kwa utumishi wake.
BWANA NI MCHUNGAJI WANGU
Bwana ni mchungaji wangu,
Sitapungukiwa kitu
Hun’laza penye majani mabichi,
Huniongoza kwa maji matulivu
Chorus
Hakika wema nazo fadhili zitanifuata mimi,
Nitakaa nyumbani mwa Bwana,
Siku zote za maisha yangu
Hunihuisha nafsi yangu,
Hun’ongoza kwa njia za haki
Nipitapo bondeni mwa mauti,
Sitaogopa wewe u nami
Gongo lako na fimbo yako,
Vitanifariji mimi
Waandaa meza mbele yangu,
Machoni pa watesi wangu
I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN
I will never be the same again
I can never return, I’ve closed the door
I will walk the path, I’ll run the race
And I will never be the same again
I will never be the same again
I can never return, I’ve closed the door
I will walk the path, I’ll run the race
And I will never be the same again
Fall like fire, soak like rain
Flow like mighty waters, again and again
Sweep away the darkness, burn away the chaff
And let a flame burn to glorify Your name
There are higher heights, there are deeper seas
Whatever you need to do, Lord do in me
The Glory of God fills my life
And I will never be the same again
Fall like fire, soak like rain
Flow like mighty waters, again and again
Sweep always the darkness, burn away the chaff
And let a flame burn to glorify Your name
Fall like fire, soak like rain
Flow like mighty waters, again and again
Sweep away the darkness, burn away the chaff
And let a flame burn to glorify Your name
I will never be the same again
I can never return, I’ve closed the door
I will walk the path, I will run the race
And I will never be the same again
And I will never be the same again
And I will never be the same again

TRIBUTES
Her Children
Jason:
Mum was the best! Always strong for all of us. She could change your despise
to make you feel better at all times. Her positive vibe and joy fullness made all
around her feel warm. The feeling that all this is in the past is unbearable but as
kind and selfless as she was, so will I accept this situation for she’s in paradise
and finally at home with our maker. I will dearly miss her and every moment we
enjoyed together.
Andrew:
To Mum! I appreciate the love you had for us when you were here with us.
Mum was a fighter, a conqueror, humble and a woman after God’s heart. Mom
was one of a kind. Even as you have departed from us, we always know that we
will be together in Spirit. We love you, miss you and may your soul Rest in Peace.
I’ll always remember Mom because she taught me how to pray and how to seek
God. Rest in Peace Mom.
Please spend most times with your loved ones because once they are gone you
will never have the chance again.
Shalom:
Mum I love you very much. I am praying for you. Thank you for the things you did
for me and for taking care of me.
Her Siblings
Our sister Rachel was a fighter, she fought for us and she would not allow any one
to harass any of her siblings. She cared for us just like a big sister would, always
watching over us. She always prayed for us and asked us to live in righteousness
loving one another.
Her Parents
Dad
We thank God for a gift of a child - Rachael Muthoni, for the time He granted us to
raise her up until she grew up. We appreciate the children you have left us with,
when we look at them we see you. We will do our best to raise them and continue
loving them. Amen
Mum
Dear Rachel,
You are now with the Lord. I recall the last conversation we had together. You
chose to forgive all who had wronged you and asked for forgiveness from those
you had wronged you, thereafter you were at peace. Your ultimate wish was that
the entire family would join you in heaven one day and that nothing would stand
in the way. Now that you are gone, I am reminded of your words – forgiveness.
Going forward, let forgiveness be the key word in our family just us as God sent
His only son Jesus to forgive us our sins. We love you – Mum.
