Centripetal force is a force that acts on an object moving in a circular path and is directed inward toward the center of the path. It causes the object to travel in a curved path rather than a straight line and is what is required to make an object follow a curved path. The centripetal force is always perpendicular to the object's velocity and its magnitude is equal to the object's mass times its centripetal acceleration.
