Quality Indicators How do you define quality as it pertains to health care and the practice of nursing? Some nurses may define quality as effective interdisciplinary teamwork that results in better patient-health outcomes, while hospital administrators may define quality as appropriately delegated responsibilities, completion of tasks, and effective patient flow. Due to the subjective nature of the term, quality is a topic of great debate. In an effort to define quality in health care, standards have been developed to establish consistency and provide guidance. The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) outlines nursing-sensitive indicators that encompass measurement scales for quality of nurse professionals as well as quality of the services provided by nurses to patients. In this week’s Discussion, you evaluate the determinants of quality.m based on the NDNQI indicators and the theoretical underpinnings of these quality indicators. You apply nursing-sensitive indicators to your current setting and assess how each definition of quality contributes to the idea of quality overall. To prepare: Review the NDNQI indicators presented in the Learning Resources that emphasize quality. Focus on those indicators that pertain to your practice setting (Hospital). In this Discussion, you examine quality improvement models and evaluate how they could be applied to address specific issues within health care organizations.
To prepare:
Review the improvement models presented in the Learning Resources.
Evaluate each of the models and select two on which to focus for this Discussion.
Consider how each of the two models could be utilized in a health care organization to promote quality and safety. Think about the following:
How does the model bring together research and evidence-based practice to facilitate quality improvement?
How does the model contribute to a culture of quality and safety?
How does it address changes in process?
Reflect on the quality improvement issue and the health care setting that you are addressing for your Course Project. Of the two models that you have selected, determine which one you, as a nurse leader-manager, would use to address this issue. Also consider how this would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for quality and safety.
Post your analysis of how the two improvement models that you selected could foster a culture of quality and patient safety and facilitate changes in process that promote positive outcomes. Explain how you would use one of these models to address the quality improvement issue in the organization that you have selected for your Course Project, and how doing so would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for improving quality and safety.

We have seen that in a health-care organization there are multiple responsibilities
including assessments of priorities in areas that require attention in an organization. The
following annotated bibliography compiles a summary of the references that will be used
to prepare a final paper that will identify nursing leadership priorities at Fantastic
Medical Center (FMC) and proposed resources for addressing the priorities.
Previously identified nursing leadership priorities at FMC that will be the focus of
the literature review are (a) nursing staff turnover, (b) nursing staff competency, and (c)
medication errors of omission. Accordingly, the literature and available resources were
searched utilizing terms that included the above listed priorities and terms to reflect any
proposed resources for addressing the priorities in order to support strategies with
evidence-based references.
Additional references will include readings from the course that involve systems
leadership, organizational structure, and use of a systems-based approach for analysis of
organizational issues. These may include Lewin’s change theory, or the diffusion of
innovation theory. The synthesis of these references will help me build the foundation of
to address strategies that can be used within FMC, both as an analysis for the project.

INTRODUCTION
Quality health care “means doing the right thing at the right time, in the right way, for the right person, and getting the best possible results.”1 The term quality, by definition, can mean excellence, status, or grade; thus, it can be measured and quantified. The patient, and perhaps the patient's family, may interpret quality health care differently from the way that health care providers interpret it. Therefore, it is important to determine—if possible—what is “right” and what is “wrong” with regard to quality health care. The study and analysis of health care are important to maintain a level of quality that is satisfactory to all parties involved. As a result of the current focus on patient safety, and in an attempt to reduce deaths and complications, providing the best quality health care while maintaining cost controls has become a challenge to all involved. Current quality initiatives are multifaceted and include government-directed, private sectorsupported, and consumer-driven projects.
This chapter explores the historical development of health care quality including a review of the important pioneers and the tools they developed. Their work has been studied, refined, and widely used in a variety of applications related to performance-improvement activities. Risk management is discussed, with emphasis on the importance of coordination with quality activities. The evolution of utilization management is also reviewed, with a focus on its relationship to quality management.
In addition, this chapter explores current trends in data collection and storage, and their application to improvements in quality care and patient safety. Current events are identified that influence and provide direction to legislative support and funding. This chapter also provides multiple tips and tools for both personal and institutional use.

In your practice as a nurse, you may use procedures and methods that did not necessarily originate in evidence, but instead were derived from informal and unwritten conventions, traditions, and observations. While these techniques may have merit, practices are constantly being updated and contradicted by information from scholarly research studies and professional guidelines. This new information serves as “evidence” for revising practices to improve outcomes across health care.
Based on this evidence, you can formulate a question. In this Discussion, you consider the use of evidence-based practice in your own organization and formulate a question that you will need to answer for your portfolio project. This is called a PICOT question. You will also investigate strategies for overcoming barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP).
To prepare:
Consider a recent clinical experience in which you were providing care for a patient.
Determine the extent to which the care that you provided was based on evidence and research findings or supported only by your organization’s standard procedures. How do you know if the tasks were based on research?

INTRODUCTION
Quality health care “means doing the right thing at the right time, in the right way, for the right person, and getting the best possible results.”1 The term quality, by definition, can mean excellence, status, or grade; thus, it can be measured and quantified. The patient, and perhaps the patient's family, may interpret quality health care differently from the way that health care providers interpret it. Therefore, it is important to determine—if possible—what is “right” and what is “wrong” with regard to quality health care. The study and analysis of health care are important to maintain a level of quality that is satisfactory to all parties involved. As a result of the current focus on patient safety, and in an attempt to reduce deaths and complications, providing the best quality health care while maintaining cost controls has become a challenge to all involved. Current quality initiatives are multifaceted and include government-directed, private sectorsupported, and consumer-driven projects.
This chapter explores the historical development of health care quality including a review of the important pioneers and the tools they developed. Their work has been studied, refined, and widely used in a variety of applications related to performance-improvement activities. Risk management is discussed, with emphasis on the importance of coordination with quality activities. The evolution of utilization management is also reviewed, with a focus on its relationship to quality management.
In addition, this chapter explores current trends in data collection and storage, and their application to improvements in quality care and patient safety. Current events are identified that influence and provide direction to legislative support and funding. This chapter also provides multiple tips and tools for both personal and institutional use.

This is called a PICOT question. You will also investigate strategies for overcoming barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP).

I. Description
The student will find a topic of interest and perform in-depth work on that topic. The project must be sufficiently complex to require the expertise of a junior-senior level student. The student must narrow the topic from the broad topics listed below:
Project topics must not be those previously developed in the mid-term group projects. Topics may be in the areas of :
Technology Issues in the Workplace;
Social Institutions and the Effect of Technology;
International Perspectives and Issues;
Anonymity, Security, Privacy, and Civil Liberties;
Intellectual Property Rights and Computer Technology;
Software Issues: Risks and Liabilities, Computer Crimes, Technology Ethics, and Privacy; and Preservation of Data for Future Use.
A student should first check the thread before posting his/her topic. The first student to notify the instructor by email will take precedence over any other student. For example, if “A Comparison of IT development in Singapore with IT development in France” is chosen, then the second student will have to choose another topic.
All topics require the approval of the instructor. Discuss questions relating to the paper with the instructor at any time necessary. E-mail your instructor at any time.
II. Learning Objectives
Read and research problems created by technology in society and some ways to modify or prevent these problems. Discuss these in the paper.
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the topic by comparing/contrasting data.

III. Criteria for the Paper
Note a few of the common reasons why the Individual research term paper would not meet the minimum standards:

When you look at ancient art, particularly ancient sculpture, you see progression in how the body in motion is represented. For this assignment, find 3 different sculptures, all from the ancient period (created between 30,000 BCE and 500 CE), which show progression of how the body is depicted in motion. For example, your first sculpture may be largely stationary, the second shows some motion, while the third shows an active body.
You may choose examples of sculpture from any of the following museums:

A New York art museum
•
A Paris museum
•
Select galleries in a Washington, DC museum
•
A Boston Museum
Paste images of all 3 sculptures into a Word document, and include details about each work: the title of each sculpture, the artist (if known), the year made, the materials used, and the size of the work. Be sure to include a reference for each work, showing which museum it was found in. Present 2 or 3 paragraphs for each work that clearly describe what the viewer sees and the content of each work. Finally, choose 3 adjectives (for each work) that express the core ideas of what the works were intended to communicate or convey to the viewer.
Part 2
Create a simple drawing of each sculpture. Draw a line down each work to indicate the center of balance. Use arrows or lines with arrows to indicate the direction of motion and movement within the sculpture. Scan or photograph your drawings and paste them into the Word document from Part 1. You can insert images into documents by placing the cursor where you want the image to be, going to “Insert,” then choosing “Picture,” and selecting the picture from your computer. Be sure to scan or photograph your drawing first and upload it to your computer.
Part 3
For each sculpture that you have chosen, choose a photograph, cartoon, movie poster, or any other image which uses the same stance, or bears remarkable similarity to the sculpture you chose in Part 1. Present at least 1 of these modern-day equivalents, with appropriate comments discussing any relevant details.

The second portion of this assignment is the rhetorical analysis, which should be at least 400-500 words in length. In the rhetorical analysis, you will explain how you used the five features to make the same exact place seem so very positive in one paragraph and yet so negative in the second paragraph.
The second portion of this assignment is a two step process.
1.) Review your two paragraphs noting each of the places you used any of the tools in the Writer's Toolbox. Try to find at least two examples of each of the tools from the Writer's Toolbox employed in each descriptions (except for tell sentences and direct statements of meaning, which you should have limited to only one per paragraph). If you can’t find two examples of the other features in each of your descriptions, you’ll probably want to revise your initial description, adding more of those features.
2.) Write your rhetorical analysis, devoting at least one paragraph to each of the tools in the Writer's Toolbox. You will probably want to begin each paragraph of the rhetorical analysis with a general claim. “I used a great deal of word choice in each of my two descriptions.” Then you’ll want to follow that claim with examples. “For instance, in my positive paragraph, I described the sun as “gleaming,” which implies that the light was pleasantly bright. However, in my negative paragraph, I described the sun as “glaring,” implying that the light was too bright, and in fact painful to look at.”
Here’s a student example of the second portion of this assignment. (This is the same student who focused on Pillsbury Crossing in his positive and negative descriptions.)
Rhetorical Analysis
I chose Pillsbury Crossing for my descriptions in this paper. I enjoyed writing about Pillsbury Crossing because it seemed to offer many positive and negatives, and I had never been there before. This allowed me to record my own first impressions, both pleasant and unpleasant. The floodplain is very peaceful, yet it is scarred by humankind’s misuse of the nature park.
I wrote my first sentence as an overt statement which explained the mood of the rest of the paragraph. For my pleasant impression, I stated “Nature’s beauty surrounds me,” emphasizing the beauty on can find in a place such as this. In contrast, for my negative impression, I wrote “Death has had her way here.” The notion of death immediately makes the tone grim and unpleasant, even though death is also a fundamental aspect of the natural world.
With my tone clearly established, I next had to consider my word choice very carefully. In order to show the reader what I experienced, I had to choose words that fit the mood of the description as set by my overt statements of meaning. In my pleasant description, I discuss the sun’s rays and how they are “crisp” and “relieving.” These words make the sun’s rays seem pleasant and positive; however, in the negative description, th.

- 1. Quality Indicators How do you define quality as it pertains to health care and the practice of nursing? Some nurses may define quality as effective interdisciplinary teamwork that results in better patient-health outcomes, while hospital administrators may define quality as appropriately delegated responsibilities, completion of tasks, and effective patient flow. Due to the subjective nature of the term, quality is a topic of great debate. In an effort to define quality in health care, standards have been developed to establish consistency and provide guidance. The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) outlines nursing-sensitive indicators that encompass measurement scales for quality of nurse professionals as well as quality of the services provided by nurses to patients. In this week’s Discussion, you evaluate the determinants of quality.m based on the NDNQI indicators and the theoretical underpinnings of these quality indicators. You apply nursing- sensitive indicators to your current setting and assess how each definition of quality contributes to the idea of quality overall. To prepare: Review the NDNQI indicators presented in the Learning Resources that emphasize quality. Focus on those indicators that pertain to your practice setting (Hospital).
- 2. Consider the influence of early quality improvement theories and philosophies on the development of those quality indicators. Using the Walden Library, locate at least two scholarly research articles that discuss how quality indicators influence your practice setting. Select one definition of quality published by any peer- reviewed source that particularly resonates with your thinking about quality. By tomorrow 12-06-2017 by 2 pm, write a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least 3 references from the list of required readings below. Include the level one headings as numbered below: post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following: 1) Identify two nurse-sensitive indicators of quality that relate to patient care and analyze the influence of early quality improvement theories and philosophies on the development of those indicators. For this exercise, do not choose nurse sensitive indicators that relate to staffing levels. 2) Find and cite at least 2 nursing research articles you located and evaluate how these indicators influence a practice setting (See attached PDF for the 2 Articles).
