March 2017
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I have not been in communication for a while. Please forgive me as our school has been
gearing up for many all ages’ events that are now coming to fruition.
Recycling - From now until the end of the year students are requested to bring in items that can
be recycled. We are measuring the amount of material brought in to each homeroom with
prizes being awarded at the end of the year. Mr. Pera-Cole’s homeroom is once again
organizing this movement with support from secondary
earth science students and our student government. Earth
science students are keeping records of the weights week to
week, recording the data in the breezeway, and are
constructing the Recycling Cup – to be awarded at the start
of each month for the class that brings in the most recyclable
material. Please send in glass, metal/aluminum, plastics and
paper with your children to be recycled. All monies collected
will be used to support the temple at the end of our road.
Connected to this collection, is the Recycling Fashion
Show on March 31. Recyclable material sent in will be used
to create costumes for participants.
The World Scholar’s Cup is here! – The World Scholar’s Cup is an
international competition where teams of three compete in 4
events. Students ages 10 to 18 are able to sign up and participate in
the junior group (ages 10 to 14) or senior group (ages 15 to 18).
There will be an Introductory Competition on May 13 or 14 to
be held at Head Start School. To participate, each student must pay
an entry fee of 1,000 Baht. If students perform well they can be
selected to participate at a Regional Competition. The closest
regional competition will be in Hanoi, Vietnam June 26 to July 1.
Parents will be responsible to assume the costs of travel, food,
lodging, and competition entry fee.
A number of our students visited Head Start school to participate in one of their
practice sessions. From this, two teams have organized, but there is always room for more.
Please contact me if you child has interest and I can speak with them and you further. To
explore this opportunity more please visit the World Scholar’s Cup website.
http://www.scholarscup.org/
Chess and Football – Elementary students have their own competitions lined up. We have
made arrangements with Montessori School to hold chess matches on Tuesday, March 21 at
3:00 pm at the Montessori School. A number of students have
signed up to participate. If you child has agreed to play chess
please sit with them and help them understand the rules. We
are reviewing these in class during our free times and could use
your support. Additionally, we will hold a friendly football match
(similar to the ones earlier in the year) on Thursday, March 23 at
3:00 p.m. at QSI.
Fence Painting – This has been an on-going project, and is now getting to
the fun stage. During these next few months students of all ages will have
the opportunity to paint the metal fence that winds around one side of
our drive. Secondary art students have begun to trace onto the fence the
national animals of countries that are represented by our population of
students, faculty and staff and art that based on our school culture and
beliefs. Over the next few months we are looking for parent volunteers
who are willing to donate time during the school day to help our kids
paint. Please contact myself or Khun Noi. Let’s make it look beautiful!
Parent/Teacher/Student Conference - Our second
Parent/Teacher/Student conference will be held on Thursday, March
9, 2017 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and conclude on Friday, March 10,2017
from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. No classes will run on Friday for
students and the conferences will be by appointment only. Our office
staff will send home appointment request forms for this opportunity.
We encourage you to speak with your child’s teachers. The more we
share with each other, the more we can support the learning our
children.
March is Reading month – Starting after Parent/Teacher
Conferences on March 9 & 10, there will be a Readathon for all
students. They will be asked by their English teachers to read
and record their progress each evening. Student will be given
a sheet to record the amount of time they spent reading. This
will need to be turned in on March 31. There will be prizes for
every student that reaches specific levels of time. We
encourage parents and guardians to read along with your
children. Your interest will help with their motivation.
There are many events in the months of April including Songkran, Writers Café and the possible
return of our Charity Fun Run/Walk.
Best wishes,
Mr. Gerbracht – Director of QSI Phuket

QSIP Newsletter [March 2017]

  • 1. QSIP Newsletter March 2017 Dear Parents and Guardians, I have not been in communication for a while. Please forgive me as our school has been gearing up for many all ages’ events that are now coming to fruition. Recycling - From now until the end of the year students are requested to bring in items that can be recycled. We are measuring the amount of material brought in to each homeroom with prizes being awarded at the end of the year. Mr. Pera-Cole’s homeroom is once again organizing this movement with support from secondary earth science students and our student government. Earth science students are keeping records of the weights week to week, recording the data in the breezeway, and are constructing the Recycling Cup – to be awarded at the start of each month for the class that brings in the most recyclable material. Please send in glass, metal/aluminum, plastics and paper with your children to be recycled. All monies collected will be used to support the temple at the end of our road. Connected to this collection, is the Recycling Fashion Show on March 31. Recyclable material sent in will be used to create costumes for participants. The World Scholar’s Cup is here! – The World Scholar’s Cup is an international competition where teams of three compete in 4 events. Students ages 10 to 18 are able to sign up and participate in the junior group (ages 10 to 14) or senior group (ages 15 to 18). There will be an Introductory Competition on May 13 or 14 to be held at Head Start School. To participate, each student must pay an entry fee of 1,000 Baht. If students perform well they can be selected to participate at a Regional Competition. The closest regional competition will be in Hanoi, Vietnam June 26 to July 1. Parents will be responsible to assume the costs of travel, food, lodging, and competition entry fee. A number of our students visited Head Start school to participate in one of their practice sessions. From this, two teams have organized, but there is always room for more. Please contact me if you child has interest and I can speak with them and you further. To explore this opportunity more please visit the World Scholar’s Cup website. http://www.scholarscup.org/
  • 2. Chess and Football – Elementary students have their own competitions lined up. We have made arrangements with Montessori School to hold chess matches on Tuesday, March 21 at 3:00 pm at the Montessori School. A number of students have signed up to participate. If you child has agreed to play chess please sit with them and help them understand the rules. We are reviewing these in class during our free times and could use your support. Additionally, we will hold a friendly football match (similar to the ones earlier in the year) on Thursday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. at QSI. Fence Painting – This has been an on-going project, and is now getting to the fun stage. During these next few months students of all ages will have the opportunity to paint the metal fence that winds around one side of our drive. Secondary art students have begun to trace onto the fence the national animals of countries that are represented by our population of students, faculty and staff and art that based on our school culture and beliefs. Over the next few months we are looking for parent volunteers who are willing to donate time during the school day to help our kids paint. Please contact myself or Khun Noi. Let’s make it look beautiful! Parent/Teacher/Student Conference - Our second Parent/Teacher/Student conference will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and conclude on Friday, March 10,2017 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. No classes will run on Friday for students and the conferences will be by appointment only. Our office staff will send home appointment request forms for this opportunity. We encourage you to speak with your child’s teachers. The more we share with each other, the more we can support the learning our children. March is Reading month – Starting after Parent/Teacher Conferences on March 9 & 10, there will be a Readathon for all students. They will be asked by their English teachers to read and record their progress each evening. Student will be given a sheet to record the amount of time they spent reading. This will need to be turned in on March 31. There will be prizes for every student that reaches specific levels of time. We encourage parents and guardians to read along with your children. Your interest will help with their motivation. There are many events in the months of April including Songkran, Writers Café and the possible return of our Charity Fun Run/Walk. Best wishes, Mr. Gerbracht – Director of QSI Phuket
