IoT ecosystem demonstrator case study - ARM headquarters siteaewp2
In my day job at ARM I recently led a project intended to create an ecosystem of interoperating IoT systems on our Cambridge headquarters site, a typical business park. In these slides I introduce the idea behind why interoperability is important and the connected assets and their users on the ARM HQ site. I explain how we used a site-wide HyperCat to create an "ARM site IoT directory", and how that helped us as IoT customers and also our IoT-vending suppliers. The project was funded by the UK's Technology Strategy Board, under its IoT Ecosystem Demonstrator competition.
Data Driven Applications for the Internet of ThingsRed Ninja Studios
This case study outlines the role Red Ninja Studios played in the user-led design and development of data driven web applications that explore the Internet of Things, the challenges of Big Data and how Hypercat streamlines the development process and mash-up of data to create value.

Open Energi's Smart Grid solutions help balance the electricity grid in real time. We collect second-by-second power consumption data from thousands of assets in the field, deeply integrating with legacy industrial controllers and building management systems. We use this data to provide our service and also to prove that we have delivered it after the fact. This data is considered sensitive by the companies who own the assets as well as the National Grid, so its flow must be tightly controlled both from the point of view of security as well as validity. I will explain how we designed an ingestion platform to meet these requirements and how we are now bringing this platform into the age of cloud computing.
A project overview presented by Sergej Svorobej (Dublin City University) on March 10, 2017.
RECAP is a €4.6million EU-funded project to develop the next generation of cloud, edge and fog computing capacity provisioning via targeted research advances in cloud infrastructure optimisation, simulation and automation.

Application Report: Big Data - Big Cluster InterconnectsIT Brand Pulse
As a leading analytics platform that runs on industry-standard hardware and integrates industry-standard database tools and applications, one of ParAccel’s biggest challenges is to architect and test hardware (servers, storage, interconnects) that make their software perform at its peak. In this case, they have achieved their mission to eliminate a cluster bottleneck by implementing 10GbE NICs to provide the bandwidth needed to-day, and well into the future.
In this open marketing meeting, we discuss the major features for the Grizzly release, coming April 4, as well as a preview of the Summit and upcoming upcoming events.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
