Social injustice
o women have been treated as the sole property of her

father, brother or husband, not been given any choice
or freedom of her own.
o The mindset of people which they considered a girl as

misery and a burden, which has to be shielded from
the eyes of intruders and needs extra care.
o They were not allowed access to education and were

trained in house work instead.
 Love & betrayal
 Blood ties versus wife
 Punishment
 Physical punishment – Radha & Chandara
 Psychological punishment –Dukhiram & Chidam
 The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence

Act 2005
 Primarily meant to provide protection to the wife or
female live-in partner from domestic violence at the
hands of the husband or male live-in partner or his
relatives, the law also extends its protection to women
living in a household such as sisters, widows or
mothers.
 Domestic violence under the act includes actual abuse
or the threat of abuse whether physical, sexual, verbal,
emotional or economic
 Women should not be treated poorly and they

deserved equal rights with men.
 We should think wisely before we do something.

 The conservative mentality as depicted in the story, is

it practical in modern times?
