This document contains the results of a public opinion poll in Georgia from April 2008 regarding various political and economic issues. It includes data on levels of trust in institutions, views on whether the current political system should be given more time or replaced, the roles of the president and parliament, representation of ethnic minorities, responsibilities of majoritarian MPs, and opinions on continuing economic reforms despite short-term difficulties. The poll also collected data on household incomes and language proficiency among non-ethnic Georgians.
The Ohio legislature is currently negotiating the biennial state budget bill that will determine funding for vital public services and supports over the next two years. Passing a new state budget presents a big opportunity to advocate to strengthen Ohio’s families and communities. Over the next several months AOF and our partners will focus on helping Ohioans be safe in their homes, afford the basics, and find good jobs that ensure family stability.
Webinar speakers Tara Britton and William Tarter, Jr. of The Center for Community Solutions discussed how the state budget is negotiated, where to find budget resources and how to use them, what it means to be an effective advocate, and ways to get involved in efforts to strengthen Ohio’s human services programs.

As we enter the final week of campaigning ahead of the referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union (EU), our new poll for STV News suggests that the majority of Scots will back the campaign to retain membership.
Among those who are likely to vote next week, 58% would vote for the UK to stay in the EU while 33% support Brexit and 8% are undecided. Once we have removed undecided voters, 64% back Remain and 36% Brexit.

As May’s Scottish Parliament election looms large, our new poll for STV News suggests that the SNP remains on course for victory with the party still significantly ahead.
Among those likely to vote, 53% would cast their constituency vote for the SNP (up three points from November 2015), while 20% would vote for Scottish Labour (no change). Support for the Scottish Conservatives has fallen by two points to 16% with the Scottish Liberal Democrats on 6% (down one point).

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
