The Use of Progressive-Ratio Schedules to Assess Negative ReinforRyan Knighton
This document describes a study that used progressive-ratio schedules to assess negative reinforcers. Two participants with disabilities were exposed to five different sounds through progressive-ratio schedules to obtain mean break points for each sound. The sounds were then ranked according to their break points, with the sound having the highest break point labeled the high-quality escape stimulus and the sound with the lowest break point labeled the low-quality escape stimulus. The participants' responding was then examined under different schedules of reinforcement for the high- and low-quality escape stimuli to see if there were differences. The results demonstrated a method for identifying preferred and nonpreferred sounds and provided preliminary support for using progressive-ratio schedules to rank negative reinforcers by quality.

The document also presents alternate notations for relational algebra including assignment statements and expression trees.
Strong adjectives like exhausted already imply an extreme level and cannot be modified in the same way as gradable adjectives. Modifiers like very, incredibly, and extremely can be used with gradable adjectives to indicate level but not with strong adjectives. This document proposes a method to calculate the economic costs and benefits of using electric vehicles (EVs) for voltage control in a distribution system. It formulates the economic loss to EV owners from adjusting active and reactive power during charging. It also proposes calculating incentives for EV owners based on their voltage contribution. The incentives are designed to offset EV owners' losses and encourage participation in voltage control via EVs. A simulation is run on a sample distribution system to calculate incentives and costs under the proposed method. The goal is to determine incentive levels that make voltage control via EVs less costly than conventional methods.
