Chaos Theory: How Real-Time Data is Making Analytics and Product Design Obsol...Oxford Tech + UX
The document summarizes a presentation given by Bev May at the Digital Analytics Association Annual Symposium on May 7, 2015 in New York. The presentation discussed how chaos theory demonstrates that analytics and product design are becoming obsolete due to the butterfly effect, whereby small changes can lead to large unpredictable outcomes. As systems become more complex and interconnected, it is no longer possible to fully understand or predict user experiences, outputs, or the reasons for certain outcomes. The presentation argues UX design must shift from a focus on individual interfaces to designing rules and systems across multiple interfaces and scenarios, while analytics needs to move from traditional methods to automated monitoring and predictive modeling.

The document discusses the Lean Startup methodology which involves an iterative process of learning, building, and measuring to develop a minimum viable product (MVP). It involves first determining a problem/solution fit through customer experiments, then building an MVP to validate learning, and pivoting if needed based on additional experiments until achieving product/market fit, at which point the focus shifts to growth through optimizations. The cycle of learning, building, and measuring continues iteratively.
This document discusses negotiation strategies and tactics. It provides an overview of structuring principles for negotiation preparation, such as considering the people involved, the problems to solve, and defining the negotiation process. It then outlines a typical negotiation sequence and criteria for determining whether a deal is good, including ensuring the other party is pleased, the deal is better than alternatives and can be justified to stakeholders. Finally, it briefly mentions common bargaining tactics.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
- Accepted in ASPLOS ‘17, Xi’an, China.
- Featured in the tutorial, Systemized Program Analyses: A Big Data Perspective on Static Analysis Scalability, ASPLOS ‘17.
- Invited for presentation at SoCal PLS ‘16.
- Invited for poster presentation at PLDI SRC ‘16.

Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.
