V
adodara is gradually becoming a pot
pourri of diverse cultures, with peo-
ple from different states flocking in
to benefit from the new development wave.
The city is lively and adding to its glory is
the host of multinational firms that have
set their base here. Work opportunities
here are at par with any of today's major
metropolitan cities in India. The diverse
population buzzing with undying enthusi-
asm and fervor for trade is adding a new
gamut of possibilities in Vadodara.
Manish Bharadwaj (IAS), Municipal
Commissioner, Vadodara, says, "Vado-
dara is growing at a rapid pace and urban-
isation is increasing by one per cent every
year. Further, in terms of infrastructural
development, Vadodara ranks third in Gu-
jarat. Moreover, lot of initiatives are un-
dertaken by the Vadodara Municipal Cor-
poration like construction of flyovers,
proper drainage systems, town planning
schemes etc,."
As a result, Vadodara is coming up with
various state-of-the-art facilities to raise
its bar in all the segments including the
sports segment. This can be seen from the
fact that the state-of-the-art outdoor Sports
Complex in Manjalpur is all set to create
history in sports.
Bharatbhai Shah, Mayor, Vadodara,
says, "The Manjalpur Sports Complex is of
international standards. It will provide a
boost to the sport activities in not only
Vadodara but in the entire state."
Construction of the complex by Vado-
dara Municipal Corporation took off in
2010. The project was undertaken by the
civic body under Swarnim Gujarat to
mark the state's 50 years of existence. The
sports facilities at the complex will help
the city in hosting big tournaments. The
Municipal Commissioner, avers, "It is a
state-of-the-art Sports Complex. It has the
potential to hold a multitude of activities
at one venue. In fact, all the international
sports events can now be held at this
Sports Complex."
