Scalability Takes On New Meaning
Virtualization technology enables organizations to rapidly configure new systems as workload requirements change. But the newly found agility stemming from such 'elastic infrastructure' demands new levels of scale and performance as servers that once took weeks to deploy, now materialize in seconds. Just look at the growth expectations for virtual versus physical servers below. In terms of data protection, 'scale' no longer means how many terabytes of data, but must account for how many virtual machines can effectively and efficiently be protected.

Veritas NetBackup benchmark comparison: Data protection in a large-scale virt...Principled Technologies
The footprint of a VM can grow quickly in an enterprise environment and large-scale VM deployments in the thousands are common. As this number of deployed systems grows, so does the risk of failure. Critical failures can become unavoidable and offering data protection from a backup solution promotes business continuity. Elongated protection windows requiring multiple jobs of different types can create resource contention with production environments and may require valuable IT admin time, so a finite window for system backups can have plenty of importance.
In our hands-on SAN backup testing, the Veritas NetBackup Integrated Appliance running NetBackup 7.6 offered application protection to 1,000 VMs in 66.8 percent less time than Competitor “E” did. In addition, the Veritas NetBackup Integrated Appliance with NetBackup 7.6 created backup images that offered granular recovery without additional steps. These time and effort savings can scale as your VM footprint grows, allowing you to execute both system protection and user-friendly, simplified recovery.

The document discusses Symantec's Backup Exec 2012 and its Virtual Machine Protection capabilities. It notes that 65% of virtual machines are unprotected and that virtualization increases storage consumption. Backup Exec 2012 aims to simplify backup through a new interface while providing robust protection for physical and virtual environments through features like single-pass backup of virtual guests, agentless or agent-based protection options, and granular recovery of applications and data.

Experience Data Management Clarity with Veritas - VMworld 2019 PresentationVeritas Technologies LLC
Data Management Insights
Data visibility is achieved with Information Studio, which can ingest and visually render data from more than 30 sources including NetBackup, MS OneDrive, MS SharePoint, CIFs shares, etc., then take action on that data such as tiering or deleting.
The Veritas Information Classifier is included in every key technology across our information governance offerings and enables organizations to easily apply data management policies to help meet key regulatory requirements such as required by GDPR, Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA, SEC, CCPA.
Users can quickly eliminate dark data and gain key insights like what data you have, who has access to it, whether it’s stale and can be tiered to lower cost storage, whether it’s PII data.
We apply this technology across the portfolio, including in enterprise archiving, where we’ve developed marketshare leadership. More details in this presentation.
How to Extend Availability to the Application Layer Across the Hybrid Cloud -...Veritas Technologies LLC
We are experiencing IT climate change. Inundated we are, daily, with a barrage of “Cloud-ready” solutions that promise to transform, supercharge or in some other way substantial improve your business. Truth is, we’ve all seen this movie before and there is no ending, only a story arch. Technologies come and go and our ability to maximize the return on these solutions is what we makes for a successful adoption. Ask yourself, with all of the promise of the public cloud, how much is hype vs. reality. More details in the presentation.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
