Cadet Greg Rangel has served in the Texas Army National Guard since 2010, deploying to Mali in 2012 and Rhode Island in 2013. He is currently an MS3 cadet in ROTC at UT Brownsville, having contracted in 2015. His career goals include commissioning as an infantry officer in 2016, attending Airborne and Ranger schools, and being promoted to Captain by 2020 while earning his MBA.

Cadet Greg Anthony Rangel was born in Anaheim, California on October 12, 1990. He moved to
San Antonio, Texas during high school, after which, he enlisted in the Texas Army National
Guard as a Parachute Rigger July 9, 2010. Upon completion of BCT and AIT, CDT Rangel moved
to Rancho Viejo, TX and began attending The University of Texas at Brownsville and joined the
ROTC program in Fall 2011.
While serving in the Texas Army National Guard CDT Rangel was assigned to the 294th QM CO
(Airborne). In February 2012, CDT Rangel was deployed with a small detachment of 294th
personnel to Mali in support of US Army Africa’s “Atlas Accords 2012”. In February 2013, Cadet
Rangel was activated and attached to the 56th Troop Command, Camp Fogarty, Rhode Island
National Guard in support of “Leap Fest 2013”. Prior to contracting with ROTC, CDT Rangel was
promoted to the rank of Sergeant on September 29, 2014.
CDT Rangel contracted with the ROTC program at UT Brownsville in February 2015. During his
time in ROTC (2011-Present), Cadet Rangel has participated in Ranger Challenge, Color Guard,
Cannon Team and has received various awards to include the Platinum PT Award (2012),
Superior Cadet Award (2012), and the President’s List Award (2013).
CDT Rangel is a recipient of the Texas Armed Service Scholarship which was awarded by State
Senator Carlos Uresti. CDT Rangel has also worked as a VA Work-Study at UT Brownsville since
August 2011 and has received numerous awards by the campus veteran directors as well as US
Congressman Filemon Vela for his support of the student veteran body.

Cadet Rangel is currently in the process of receiving his first OER from Bronc BN PMS, LTC Llamas. This
OER will be over his ability to lead, achievements, and qualities as a cadet during his MS3 year.

Cadet Rangel is currently on track to graduate with his bachelor’s degree and commission in May 2016.
CDT Rangel plans on serving in the 143rd IN REG (Airborne) as an Infantry Officer and has already
received his LOA. If branched infantry, he will attend IBOLC in 2016, Ranger School in 2017, and any
other schools such as Air Assault in the years that follow. He plans to get his MBA by 2019 and be ready
for promotion to CPT by 2020.
