safer for LGBTQIA+ kids?
● Fundraiser? -- do we need to talk to a
place around here to make it a fundraiser?
○ 10% proceeds go to the GSA
○ Lobos
○ Zombie Hut
○ Books are Magic
○ Lavender Lake
○ Pig Beach
Notes from Meeting:
We want more workshops for adults on how to respond to LGBTQIA bullying in the classroom. We need
more admin support. How do we talk to kids who are bullying students or teachers? How can equity work
involve supporting LGBTQIA+ students and faculty? How can Pride Month help us to breathe more life
into already existing structures (LGBTQIA+ book club). Pride → Why is it called that? There is something
we need to face. The fact that kids are not out tells us there is an issue.
Maybe our goal is just to uplift people? To make people feel supported. To make the kids know it exists.
What do we want:
● Educate bosses and colleagues
● Have students have fun experiences in queerness
Ideas: RJC circles with faculty about Queerness. Maybe during a 5th and 6th period lunchtime. (RS)
Focus on media representation helps to have to focus on identity while putting it in an academic sense
and both allies and LGBTQIA+ ppl can engage
Field Trip Ideas:
LGBT Center in Crown Heights
Brooklyn Historical Society (podcast about Queer Brooklyn)
March in the Brooklyn Pride Parade (June 8)
Free Tour of Stonewall Inn w Pizza
Beyond Tolerance Youth Conference @ Sunset Park HS w Pizza (May 31)
Equity Conference @ Laguardia HS (June 6)
