Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Prezentacja kl
1. Jan Karski
• Właściwie Jan Kozielewski, pseudonim Witold
(ur. 24 kwietnia 1914 w Łodzi, zm. 13 lipca 2000 w
Waszyngtonie) – polski prawnik i dyplomata, historyk, od
1939 w konspiracji, kurier i emisariusz władz Polskiego
Państwa Podziemnego, świadek Holokaustu.
3. Młodość
Wychował się w katolickiej
rodzinie, w środowisku
wielokulturowej Łodzi. Rodzina
Kozielewskich mieszkała przy ulicy
Kilińskiego 71, w kamienicy
czynszowej, wktórej większość
lokatorów była pochodzenia
żydowskiego. Ukończył wydział
prawa i dyplomację na
Uniwersytecie Jana Kazimierza we
Lwowie (1935), był prymusem w
Szkole Podchorążych artylerii
konnej we Włodzimierzu
Wołyńskim. Po odbyciu praktyki
dyplomatycznej, w styczniu 1939
roku został zatrudniony w
Ministerstwie Spraw
Zagranicznych.
niemieckiego transportu, dotarł do Warszawy i podjął
działalność konspiracyjną. Od stycznia 1940 roku działał
z ramienia władz podziemnych w misjach kurierskich do
rządu polskiego na uchodźstwie we Francji. W czerwcu
Następnie działał w Biurze Propagandy i Informacji
Komendy Głównej AK oraz we Froncie Odrodzenia
Polski.
5. Raport w sprawie Holocaustu
Latem 1942 roku Cyryl Ratajski, Delegat Rządu na Kraj, powierzył
mu misję do premiera, generała Władysława Sikorskiego. Karski
wypełniając powierzoną mu misję udał się do okupowanej Polski.
Był kurierem i emisariuszem politycznym. W podziemiu znany był
pod pseudonimem „Witold”. Używał także innych: „Piasecki”,
„Kwaśniewski”, „Znamierowski”, „Kruszewski”, „Kucharski”.
Dwukrotnie, w tajemnicy przed administracją niemiecką, udawał się
do getta warszawskiego. Aby zebrać dalsze materiały, w przebraniu
niemieckiego żołnierza wszedł do obozu zagłady, który później
zidentyfikował jako Belzec. Po wojnie przyznał, że był to obóz
przejściowy dla Żydów w Izbicy.
6. Jesienią 1942 roku wyprawił się do Wielkiej Brytanii z
najważniejszą misją swojego życia, podczas której jako
naoczny świadek zdał relację o eksterminacji Żydów.
Przekazał także informacje o strukturze, organizacji i
funkcjonowaniu Państwa Podziemnego w okupowanej
Polsce. Rząd generała Sikorskiego postanowił „Raport
Karskiego” przekazać z prośbą o pomoc rządom Anglii i
USA. Na podstawie dokumentów przywiezionych przez
Karskiego w postaci mikrofilmów i potwierdzonych jego
świadectwem, ówczesny minister spraw zagranicznych
w rządzie RP w Londynie, Edward Raczyński,
przygotował i 10 grudnia 1942 przedstawił aliantom
szczegółowy raport o holokauście
8. Wizyta za oceanem
W lipcu 1943 roku Karski został przyjęty przez
Franklina Delano Roosevelta, prezydenta USA. Polski
wysłannik apelował do przedstawicieli najwyższych
władz alianckich o ratunek dla Żydów. Proponował
wystosowanie ultimatum wielkich mocarstw wobec
Innym
rozwiązaniem byłoby bombardowanie linii kolejowych do
obozów zagłady lub dostarczanie broni dla oddziałów
partyzanckich. Najłatwiejszym rozwiązaniem byłoby
otwarcie granic i ułatwienie wystawiania paszportów dla
uciekających przed zagładą Żydów. Podczas tego
spotkania, w pewnym momencie prezydent Roosevelt
przerwał raport polskiego emisariusza na temat Żydów i
zapytał o sytuację rolników w okupowanej Polsce.
9. Jan Karski w Ameryce spotkał się z wieloma wybitnymi
politykami.
1944 roku Jan Karski napisał bestseller Tajne państwo (Story
of a Secret State). Nakład książki osiągnął wielkość 360
tysięcy egzemplarzy.
Po wyzwoleniu obozów koncentracyjnych dominującą
reakcją był szok. To, co tam zastawano, szokowało
wkraczających żołnierzy sowieckich, amerykańskich i
brytyjskich. Zdjęcia obiegały cały świat, gazety biły na trwogę,
opinia publiczna była zszokowana.
10. Okres powojenny, USA
stosunki międzynarodowe i teorię komunizmu. W 1970 roku napisał
fundamentalną monografię Great Powers and Poland (1918-1945). Członek
Polskiego Towarzystwa Naukowego na Obczyźnie (od 1985).
W 1965 roku poślubił 54 letnią tancerkę i choreografkę Polę Nireńską,
polską żydówkę. Nie mieli dzieci.
Udział w filmie Shoah (1985) Claude'a Lanzmanna „odkrył” dla światowej
opinii publicznej Jana Karskiego i jego próbę powstrzymania Holocaustu. W
1982 roku otrzymał tytuł Sprawiedliwego wśród Narodów Świata i posadził
drzewko na terenie Yad Vashem w Jerozolimie. Przyjął go prezydent
Izraela. W 1994 roku otrzymał honorowe obywatelstwo państwa Izrael. W
1995 roku otrzymał Order Orła Białego. Osiem uniwersytetów
amerykańskich i polskich (m.in. Uniwersytet Warszawski, 18 czerwca 1991,
Uniwersytet Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej, 28 czerwca 1995, i Uniwersytet
Łódzki, 1996) uhonorowało go doktoratami honoris causa. W 1996 roku
zrealizowano o nim dokumentalny film Moja misja, Waldemara Piaseckiego i
Michała Fajbusiewicza. W 1998 roku, w 50 rocznicę powstania państwa
Izrael, otrzymał nominację do Pokojowej Nagrody Nobla.
11. Wydarzenia XXI wieku
Jan Karski zmarł 13 lipca 2000 roku w Waszyngtonie i został pochowany
na tamtejszym cmentarzu Góry Oliwnej. Podczas uroczystości żałobnych
hołd oddali mu prezydenci USA i Polski: Bill Clinton oraz Aleksander
Kwaśniewski.
Prestiżowy amerykański tygodnik „Newsweek” uznał Karskiego za jedną z
najwybitniejszych postaci XX wieku, jego wojenną misję określił zaś mianem
jednego z moralnych kamieni milowych cywilizacji upływającego stulecia.
Francuski pisarz Yannick Haenel opisał losy Karskiego w wydanej w
sierpniu 2009 powieści pt. Jan Karski, która wywołała wiele kontrowersji we
Francji. Opisany w książce Claude Lanzmann, autor filmu Shoah, zarzucił
autorowi manipulowanie historią. Autor książki postawił z kolei dokładnie ten
sam zarzut reżyserowi na łamach Le Monde.
W kwietniu 2012 roku Jan Karski został pośmiertnie odznaczony Medalem
Wolności przez prezydenta Baracka Obamę. 29.05.2012 r. były minister
spraw zagranicznych RP Adam Daniel Rotfeld odebrał w Białym Domu w
Waszyngtonie w imieniu Ś.P. Jana Karskiego medal z rąk prezydenta USA
Baracka Obamy. Kontrowersje wzbudziło użycie przez Prezydenta USA
podczas tej uroczystości określenia polski obóz śmierci.
