An old single-hulled tanker in poor state developed a 15-meter crack in its hull during a heavy storm off the coast of Spain in November 2002, spilling over 70,000 tons of oil into the sea. The spill most affected the coastal regions of Galicia, Spain and large-scale cleaning operations were launched in response.
